Madeleine and Colin's Greenery Filled Texan Wedding at Home by Grant Daniels Photography

Happy Monday everyone, I do hope you had a good weekend? What did you get up to? Any wedding planning jobs? Or did you manage to do anything Christmas related? We went to the Christmas tree farm on Saturday and tagged our Christmas tree. So exciting and so festive! It’s getting delivered next weekend so I can’t wait to decorate it. We also went to a Christmas fayre so I’m feeling all festive now and really looking forward to the next few weeks.
Today I am taking you back to March of this year for this gorgeous Texan wedding. Colin and Madeleine chose to get married at Madeleine’s family home, with a stunning outdoor ceremony and then a clear marquee to seat their 250 guests. The ceremony was incredibly personal and the reception area filled with some beautiful garlands and greenery decor. I just love this wedding. It manages to be modern, yet rustic at the same time, totally beautiful. Big thanks to Grant Daniels Photography for the amazing images.

It was simple, intimate, and slow. It absolutely felt like a night that could have only happened once – between the people, the food, the weather, everything… I can’t imagine it ever being recreated.

Colin and Madeleine were married on 11th March at Madeleine’s childhood home in Bulverde, Texas. ‘We wanted the whole day to feel like we were inviting people into something special and intimate, and what better place to do that than at home? It is also a spot that is special to both of us, and we loved the idea of being able to revisit the spot where we were married over and over again. We had about 250 guests and it took 7 to 8 months to plan.

How they met
We ran in similar circles in college, and really got to know each other at ACL. It’s not the most exciting story – sometimes we try to elaborate – but we have been inseparable ever since.

The proposal
I was a teacher at the time, so he planned it on the day I least expected – the night before school started. He proposed at the house where I lived when we started dating – we used to sit on the roof and talk, fight, make out, drink whisky… all the good things. He said we were going to dinner, but he took me to that house instead and proposed on that same rooftop. Afterward, we celebrated with friends and family at his parent’s house.

How did you allocate your budget?
We picked what was most important to us, and were willing to compromise on everything else. For us, it was the meal. We wanted it to be served family style at long tables. It was a big expense, but it was absolutely worth it.

How did you choose your photographer?
Honestly, that was a bit of a fiasco that ended up better than we could have hoped! We had our photographer fall through last minute and were saved by Grant Daniels. We loved his style – neither of us like traditional, feminine wedding photos, and we both really liked his style. He also was super kind and easy to work with for two people who don’t necessarily love having their photos taken.

The dress
My dress was by Ivy and Aster, and I wore ankle boots by Joie. I didn’t wear any jewelry – I don’t in my day to day life, so it felt weird to do something unnatural on my wedding day.

The suit and bridesmaids
Colin’s suit was from Bonobos. The bridesmaids and groomsmen selected their own suits and dresses. The groomsmen wore navy and the bridesmaids wore white!

Theme or colour scheme
Neither of us are really drawn to color and tend to stick with neutrals, so our wedding really reflected that. The color scheme was mostly white with greenery and accents of burgundy.

Flowers
Magical! I don’t even know what half of them were. Bricolage killed it.

Decoration
Florals and greenery were definitely our biggest decoration. We had garlands going down the tables, intertwined in the bistro lights in the tent, and even a garland chandelier, which was something I saw online and Sam from Bricolage brought to life. Another thing we did that I loved was we had vintage rugs as the aisle for the ceremony. It turned out so beautiful, and we have the rug that we got married on in our house today.

Food
So much, and so many good things! We had a meat and fish option, along with the best sides. The one I remember best were these amazing roasted carrots with pesto that we still talk about.

Wedding cake
We had a vanilla cake with cobbler filling, and a hazelnut cake. They were both amazing!

Entertainment
This was something that we fought hard for – in lieu of a traditional wedding band, we hired a country musician named Silas Lowe who played at a dive bar in Austin to play at our wedding. Two stepping is so fun, because people get to talk and connect in a really unique way. It is still something that people talk about when the remember our wedding!

Personal touches
Our dog Luna was my dog of honor – my sister walked her down the aisle. Honestly, I had no idea how it would go. She can be a little anxious, but she was an angel. It’s almost like she knew it was an important day. The pictures that I have of her are some of my favorites.

Special moments
There was a really bizarre moment at the end of the night that turned out to be really memorable. It was about 10:30 and most of the guests that we weren’t as close with had gone home, so we were just dancing with our friends and family. Our friends hijacked the music and played a song by Zach Brown Band that frankly has no meaning to me. They lifted us up and paraded us around the dance floor. It was chaos, and so unexpected, but I think it is one of the funniest, sweetest moments from the night. I would also say that throughout the night, Colin and I just kept looking at each other and saying that the night was everything we hoped it would be.

Advice for other couples
Pick the things that are worth fighting for, and don’t sweat the rest.

Biggest surprise
It rained the whole day leading up to the wedding, and maybe 2 hours before the ceremony, the rain stopped and clouds parted. It ended up being the most perfect clear, crisp night, and didn’t start raining again until we were running toward our getaway car.
