I hope you are all having a good Monday afternoon everyone? We are very glad to welcome Sugar and Spice designs to Boho today to share their gorgeous wedding stationery, invitations and new designs with you all. With a fabulous range including bespoke options, there’s something to suit all styles and themes. I simply love the watercolour designs, glitter and the festival themes and I know you will too!
Hey! I’m Jacquie (or Jax) and I’m the founder and designer at Sugar & Spice Designs. I live with my wonderful husband, our little girl, two chocolate Labradors and two cats (yes, it’s a houseful of noise, toys and the occasional toddler tantrum but I love it!)
I haven’t always been a wedding stationery designer, in fact Sugar & Spice was only born in November 2016! My love for weddings started when I was asked to photograph a friend’s wedding after completing my Photography A Level and I loved every second of it! I then worked with many couples capturing their special days as a wedding photographer for over 10 years.
With a creative background I was asked to design wedding stationery for some friends and I well and truly got the wedding stationery and typography bug! I’ve since designed many wedding invitations, save the dates and other paper goods for some lovely couples and absolutely love creating bespoke designs to reflect each couples wedding day style.
So, here I am, a full time designer of wedding and event stationery and I just love doing what i do.
Where are you based?
At my home in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside I cover the whole of the UK but I also take orders from abroad (I’m currently working on a bespoke design for a Norwegian bride!)
What were you doing before?
As well as wedding photography I have worked in a variety of creative roles from photography and video production to graphic design.
How would you describe your style?
Being a country girl at heart my designs are inspired by my love for rustic and country weddings and other nature inspired themes. My designs are made with love and hand finished with little extra details from twine ties to pretty packaging.
What is your biggest achievement so far?
I’ve wanted to be a wedding stationery designer for a long time so my biggest achievement is launching my business and getting my first few orders booked in with some lovely brides.
What makes you different to your competitors?
I draw on my background in creative and design roles and apply this experience to my full design service. The knowledge I have gained from this means I am able to advise my couples on the various print processes available as well as paper types and suggesting different finishes to make their stationery truly unique. I get genuinely excited when I receive the final prints and love to package them up ready to send to my couples.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I have worked with some really lovely brides and I love being able to create very different designs to suit their tastes and wedding styles. A wedding invitation is your guests’ first peek at your wedding day style and I love to be a part of this.
What sort of couple do you think you attract?
Those couples who are looking for beautifully designed invitations and stationery made with love. I have worked with a number of different couples, all with varying styles and ideas.
What would be your ideal wedding to work on?
I really enjoy working on designs for rustic weddings but I love to work on any wedding where the couple have added their own personal touches to their special day.
Can you give me some information on your pricing structure?
The prices for my customizable designs and bespoke design service are clearly set out on my website. My prices vary for each of my ranges depending on paper type and print finish but I always advise on cost implications through the initial discussions with my couples.
What is your ideal way to spend a day off?
My perfect day off (apart from laying on a white sandy beach with a Mojito!) would be a day spent enjoying a long country walk and pub lunch with my hubby, little girl and two Labradors, followed by a chill out evening kicking back and watching a movie (with a HUGE amount of popcorn….or Ben & Jerry’s – I’m not fussy!).
What can you never leave the house without?
Apart from assorted baby paraphernalia (which seems to take up most of my handbag these days!) – I am never without my iPhone or notebook to capture inspiration.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
I’d be tempted to buy a new car and lavish holidays but I’d probably end up opening some kind of animal sanctuary to home all of the animals I come across (that my husband currently won’t let me keep!)
If you weren’t running your business, what would you be doing?
Probably the above (opening an animal sanctuary)
Do you have any new products on the horizon?
Having been contacted by a couple of brides who are having Disney themed weddings, I have recently added a new customisable collection (Kissed by a Rose) which is inspired by my all-time favourite Disney movie, Beauty & The Beast. This features a watercolour pink rose, elegant typography and is printed onto luxury textured card.
