Today’s gorgeous couple Veronica and Alexander chose to hold their wedding in the UK, after spending holidays here as a couple. They chose a quintessentially English location in a Victorian country estate which they booked out for the week. This made their classically English garden party wedding a very laid back affair, that saw them enjoy the local scenery, as well as the surrounding villages. With a gorgeous first look, Veronica in 2 stunning gowns and Alexander looking very dashing in his Emporio Armani suit, this wedding screams out elegance and style. Big thanks to Jacob and Pauline Photography for the images.
Veronica and Alexander were married on the 22nd of June 2016 at The Old Rectory, Chulmleigh, in Devon. ‘Veronica spent part of her childhood growing up in England. We’ve both traveled to the UK on holiday together and enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of the countryside. We had about 35 guests and the wedding took approximately 6 months to plan. We booked the venue in January of the same year.’
How they met
We met at a pool party and when we married had been together for 2 ½ years.
Tell me about the proposal.
Alex proposed during a stage 4 offshore hurricane in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He had wanted to propose the night before, but the beach was tumultuous with 40ft waves, strong winds and rain making a sunset dinner proposal impossible. While he didn’t get to propose the way he wanted, the morning after the proposal the skies cleared and the rest of the trip was filled with sunshine and good weather.
How did you allocate your budget?
We allocated the majority of the budget to renting the house for a week since for us spending time together was most important.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on the fact that it was a destination wedding. This inherently added costs for housing, plane tickets, car rentals etc. We saved on the signage. The bride’s aunt has beautiful hand writing and so created the place/table settings.
How did you choose your photographer?
I chose the photographer after reviewing their blog and work. We loved the soft approach, attention to beautiful lighting and artistic framing.
The Dress
I had a Reem Acra dress and Stuart Weitzman shoes
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Alex wore Emporio Armani suit, and the bridesmaids wore Reformation dresses
Theme or Colour Scheme
Color scheme was cream, greenery, with pops of mauve, pinks and peaches. Given we were having the wedding at a victorian countryside estate we went appropriately with an English garden theme.
Flowers
I had roses, peonies, queen annes lace with lots of greenery from Emma Hewlett
Decoration
We mainly had flowers in the marquee and let the romantic overgrown victorian gardens take center stage. No additional decorations were needed.
Food
We had canapes served after the ceremony. Following was a three course seated meal. The main courses were a choice of the following:
Wedding Cake
The bride’s sister made the cake and decorated it with flowers from the garden
Entertainment
We played music from a pre-made playlist
Stationery
We created the invitations from PaperSource in San Francisco
Personal Touches
The music, cake, and table setting stationery were only done by family members
Special Moments or Highlights
Sharing the day with close family and friends in one of our favorite places made the experience perfect. The dinner speeches were especially moving and heartfelt.
Advice for other couples
Decide early on what you and your partner want for your wedding. Family members can influence the wedding, but ultimately the day is for the both of you so don’t let others stress you out.
Biggest Surprise
Our caterers told us at 11pm that we had to turn the music off even though we were all still dancing. We ended up moving the dance party to the barn on the property and one of my bridesmaids and her boyfriend heroically carried all of the sound system from the marquee to the barn. The party continued until the early morning.
