I have something super pretty to share with you today, a truly delightful laser cut wedding stationery collection from my good friends at the Hummingbird Card Company. This collection is perfect for the Boho bride looking for something a bit out of the ordinary or something that bit more stylish. With lots of different ideas to choose from there is a design to suit every taste. The work on each design is impeccable, so pretty and full of charm. You are sure to wow your guests with these beautiful designs, I know you are going to love them as much as I do.
‘We’re just about to launch a new laser cut collection called Botanicals. We wanted to do something different with laser cutting and try something new. We love watercolour print effects and so combined a watercolour floral print with laser cutting. We’ve designed and made the invitation and we’re just finishing off the rest of the stationery collection. It’s so lovely and fresh and new for us and we’re all loving the finished effect!!! Hope you do too…’
What made you start your business
I used to work in fashion as a lingerie designer and then by chance a paper cut from Tokyo set me off in a new direction, it was so fragile and delicate, it felt perfect for wedding stationery. It was over 10 years ago in the early days of laser cutting but as soon as the first design was sampled and cut, that was it… Hummingbird was born.
When did you start and wher are you based?
HB was founded in 2008 and uur happy little studio is in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
We send orders all over the UK and internationally too, we’ve send to Europe, America and frequently even as far as Australia!
What is your biggest achievement so far
HB and marrying my gorgeous husband Dan…
What makes you different to your competitors
We try and use techniques that are just a little different, not just printing. We’re laser cutters first and foremost, it’s just so stunning. Lasers create the most amazing and beautiful effect, where the artwork is literally burnt away from the card, leaving the delicate lace-like design. From when we started it’s become more popular but we’re always trying to stay ahead with trends and designs that work for us. We also love letter press foil printing, with more glamorous wedding themes happening, it’s just perfect to add a touch of luxury with stylish metallics.
What do you enjoy most about your job
Sending out orders and getting lovely messages from our customers, launching a new designs and creating a unique bespoke designs for couples who have some crazy ideas!
What sort of couple do you think you attract
We want to create convertible invites and stationery for those who love something a little different… from the ‘Boho Babe’ who loves individuality to the ‘Glam Girl’ who desires a little luxury! Our designs are created to tell a story that sparks the imagination and delights friends and family giving a sneak peek for the day the ahead!
What is your ideal way to spend a day off
On a beach, in the sun, walking our dog….
What can you never leave the house without
My dog!
Who would be your 5 dream dinner guests dead or alive
OK so that’s another hard question, can we have two dinner parties… a girls night and a boys night!
Paloma Faith, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Joanna Lumley & Agatha Christy.
Orlando Bloom, Roald Dahl, Johnny Depp, Mahatma Gandhi & Jack Savoretti.
What would you do if you won the lottery
Invest in Hummingbird so we could have a boutique & studio space all together, with a little coffee shop come tea room and creative space for classes, perhaps flowers too and then take a holiday! Oh and of course get my dog and little pup friend!
If you weren’t running your business, what would you be doing
I love collecting things and finding treasures for my home at antiques fairs like Newark so you’d probably find me there, buying the odd quirky chair or piece of china. Then lots of creative things on my bucket list, a photography & florist course, getting a kiln and making pottery, taking part on the Great British Bake Off, watercolor classes, learning to crotchet then things like growing my own veg, getting more ducks and taking a balloon ride.
