Happy Friday everyone! I hope you have had a good week and are getting through January OK, it’s been a long old month so far and we are only half way through it! However I don’t like to wish the days away, so I am embracing it and making the most of every day as much as I can. I am looking forward to a fairly chilled weekend, it will involve, walks, cake, fondue, my friend Sarah coming to visit and watching the Basketball, what about you? To round off the week, I have this gorgeous destination wedding. Kira and Rob were married on 10th September at Telluride Ski Resort San Sophia Overlook in Colorado. The whole day is all about the great outdoors, this couple love nature and being out in the mountains with their dogs, so they wanted this to be a key factor of their big day. They chose simple decor, a laidback vibe and the most amazing backdrop for their ceremony, Big thanks to Kelly at In Love and Adventure – Elopement Photography for the magnificent photos.
Rob and Kira were first considering eloping just the two of them for their wedding day, but after much thought and consideration, they ultimately decided to include their closest loved ones on their big day. With a relaxed day focused on the couple, their three dogs, and having fun, the day couldn’t have played out any better than it did.
Kira and Rob live the city life in Denver, while escaping into the mountains for adventurous activities whenever they get the chance. During our first phone call they told us they had just gotten back from a weekend trip skiing and snowshoeing in the mountains. When I asked the couple what their favorite adventure they ever had together was, Kira responded with, “We spent literally every weekend backpacking last summer. This is the first memory that came to mind and it instantly made me chuckle. It was literally the worst backpacking trip we went on, off trail, bushwhacking, impossibly steep, climbing over 10000000 fallen trees. I was extremely grumpy but we spent the entire ascent joking about how terrible it was and when we found the lake we had the entire area to ourselves all weekend. It really was magical. And terrible. Haha” I knew right away that this couple was a couple we would love to work with. The three main things they wanted for their day was to have fun with their dogs, have it be low key, and be surrounded by their closest friends and family.
The day started out by meeting up with Kira at her Airbnb to get ready. She was surrounded by her closest female friends and family, her mom, her grandmother, her best friends, and sister. After she got her dress on, she did a first look individually with each of them, and already the happy tears were flowing. After she did her final first look (before the first look with Rob), with her father, we took a short walk over to a foot bring in town so the couple could enjoy the moment of seeing each other in their wedding attire for the first time.
After the couple had a few minutes of alone time and their first look, we headed into downtown Telluride to get some downtown pics! We walked through the town with their three dogs in tow, and were on our way up to San Sophia Overlook for their ceremony! Before their ceremony, Kira and Rob carved out plenty of time up at the overlook to spend time with their three dogs way before all the guests started to arrive. It was such a fun moment in the day. We got some really epic shots of the 5 of them just having fun and being super relaxed before the ceremony.
Once the guests arrived and everyone got seated, the ceremony began. Kira’s fathered walked her down the aisle, but not before a few moments of recognizing she was about to get married. Her father grabbed her hand, and gave her a few sweet words of encouragement before walking her down the aisle to Rob. I think at this point, there wasn’t one dry eye on the overlook! Kira’s sister officiated a short and sweet ceremony, while pointing out all the qualities that make these two the perfect match. The two read their own vows before being announced as husband, and wife. After their first kiss, they walked down the aisle for the first time as Mr. and Mrs., and as they reached the end of the aisle, they looked back and all of their loved ones were cheering for them. It was such a special moment, and i’m so glad we were there to capture it.
After the ceremony, there was a cocktail hour followed by dinner and celebrating at the Tomboy Tavern. Kira designed the entire indoor reception details. Dried florals were placed in neutral glass colored vases, hand made table settings with wild flower illustrations told guests which table to sit at, and last but not least, there were three signature drinks for the guests to choose from, all named after their three dogs. Kira’s father, Kira’s best friend, and Rob’s mother all took a moment to toast the new happily married couple. And as the sun set on the San Juan mountains, the couple rode the gondola back up to San Sophia Overlook for sunset and blue hour photos.
It was a beautiful day for a mountain wedding, and the photos turned out beautifully! Congratulations to Kira + Rob!
