Today we head across to the beautiful Island of Mallorca and with it bring back a huge dose of gorgeous sunshine! Rachel and Darren, with the help of Senses Events wedding planners, created the most beautiful destination wedding. With an English Country Garden theme, mixed with a colour pallet of pretty pastels, this wedding is brimming with the most amazing decoration ideas, outdoor furniture and the most charming ceremony area. Rachel and Darren enlisted friends and family to help with all their DIY ideas and the results are this beautiful outdoor wedding with loads of personality, captured perfectly by Ana Garcia Photography.
Rachael and Darren were married on the 9th October 2016 at Honor Vell, a beautiful, rustic 13th century finca set in the breathtaking Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca. ‘Darren and I met in Mallorca working and it has been close to hearts ever since. We had 90 guests and the wedding took 2 years to plan.’
How they met
We met working together on board a yacht as we work in the yachting industry and have been together for 6 years
The Proposal
We were visiting England seeing family and friends, we had a lovely BBQ with my parents and Darren had asked my dads permission that morning we had a walk down the garden and Darren got down on to one knee and presented the ring asking if I would be his wife.
How did you allocate your budget?
Most of our budget was allocated on the venue as we stayed there for one week with our close friends and family, the rest was mainly catering, flowers and entertainment.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on hiring a finca for a week for our family and friends to stay in also it was the location for the wedding. We saved by making our own invitations and decorations for the wedding, our parents made over 600 metres of hand sewn bunting for the day and my dad cut and spray painted all the wooden decorations we had hanging in the trees including the hearts and fairies you can see in the pictures, we had family and friends collect jam jars and I spray painted them and wrapped string around the vases hang in the trees and on tables, we made all our own chalk board signs, Darren and I made the post box for our cards.
Why did you choose your photographer?
Our wedding planner recommended her.
The Dress
Dress was by Maggie Sorrel and the shoes were Rainbow, I also had a beautiful veil and head-dress.
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Suits were from a designer outlet centre and bridesmaid dresses were bought online
Theme or Colour
Taking inspiration from the pastel heart bunting that my Aunt and Uncle had given us as an engagement present, we decided on an English country garden theme, with pastels for our colour scheme.
Flowers
Baby’s breath, rosemary, olive leaves, lithiantus, mini dianthus, gerberas, freesias, miniature rosas, gloxinia, alstroemerias, astilbe, and silver brunia.
Decoration
Handmade decorations made by family and friends very boho chic
Food
We had a hog roast on the day with roasted vegetables and amazing salads, my family and I made all the desserts.
Wedding Cake
We made our own wedding cake – it was a croque en bouche, My mum and aunty made the profiteroles, my other aunty made all the beautiful sugar flowers and my godfather put it together and did the sugar work
Entertainment
We had a live band, The Vera Lynn,’s which our wedding planner recommended
Stationery
My father and mum made all our stationary
Personal Touches
We made the wedding signs and the post box for our cards, as well as desserts.
Special Moments or Highlights
My godfather did the blessings on the day which were really personal to use, my first dance with Darren as husband and wife, the speech my dad did was very thoughtful and caring and my dance with my dad he chose the song and it meant a lot.
Advice for Other Couples
We were very fortunate that we had an amazing wedding planner who made the day run smoothly I would highly recommend having someone like Paola, Senses Events, she had lots of contacts on the island saving us time, money and ultimately, stress! They oversaw every detail, and made the planning look effortless. She captured our English country garden theme beautifully. All of our guests had a fabulous time and still talk about our big day!
On the day I had a busy morning but then went and had my hair and makeup done it was great to have some down time to myself before all the excitement of the day, I really valued this time as I was able to relax and not worry about what was going on outside.
