Today I have a fab summer wedding from Amber Marie Photography. It’s a totally relaxed, laid back wedding, where Lisa and Kieran the happy couple decided on a totally informal wedding day, where they ignored many traditions and just had the chilled out day they wanted.
Kieran and Lisa were married on Saturday 2nd August 2014 at St Alban’s Roman Catholic Church, Larkhill and the reception was held at Aldercholes Farm, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. ‘The church is Kieran’s family church and it is also one of the most beautiful churches we have been to. It almost looked like a cathedral. We wanted a wedding a bit different to anyone had been to, one where we could invite everyone all day without being charged crazy prices per head. Kieran’s Aunty has a farm house and land so we asked if we could use some of the land to put a marquee on. We had 170 guests invited all day/evening. We decided in November 2013 to get married in the summer of 2014. We went to see the priest when a suitable date would be. The 2nd August was then pencilled in. We started ringing companies and ordered my wedding dress in January, so it really was 7 months to organise and plan.’
How they met
Kieran and I met on 15th November 2003. We were both on a night out in Burnley. Kieran was with the Burnley Rugby players and I was out with my best friend Heather (the blonde bridesmaid). We looked at each other as I walked pat him and we started chatting. We spent the rest of the time in the pubs chatting and then exchanged numbers. He text me the next day asking if I would like to go to the cinema. I said yes and the rest is history.
We were on holiday in august, 2008 in Marbella with our friends. We went to a restaurant one night on the harbour. During the meal, Kieran brought out a box, opened it and inside was a diamond. He said that we have been together for 5 years, how much he loved me and would I do the honour of becoming his wife. I was completely shocked, I hugged and kissed him but I didn’t answer for about a minute. His friend had to ask ‘Well, what’s the answer?!’ it was of course ‘Yes’. Kieran then gave me a letter from the jeweller, explaining how he searched for the perfect diamond for Kieran to propse with. He checked 17 diamonds for the perfect clarity, colour, cut and carat. He said that he would be able to make the ring to a design I wanted. When we returned from the holiday, we went straight to the jewellers to design the ring. He made it in silver first to check I liked the design and then he made the final ring out of platinum. The ring was ready within 4 days. We went back to the same jeweller to make the wedding ring, which matches the shape of the engagement ring.
How did you choose your photographer
Our friends were getting married in September 2014 and recommended Amber as she was their photographer. I met with Amber and she was lovely. We talked about what we wanted, natural photographs, with some specific shots e.g. one of Kieran and I at the altar with a view of the congregation and the church. Amber and I also discussed the venue, the decor, the dress and the suits. Amber said that it was her kind of wedding and was very excited to shoot it.
My dress was a lace Maggie Sottero dress in Parisian pink. I also wore a lace bolero with sequins also by Maggie Sottero. I had a simple veil with small clear jewels and pearls placed sporadically around the edges (can’t remember who by) and silver jewelled hair comb by Linzi Jay
All from The Bridal Lounge in Accrington. The shoes were Carvela Kurt Geiger cream satin with a silver heel and diamantes
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Kieran wore Ralph Lauren shirt, trousers and shoes. The waist coat was hand made by Legend Bridal Designs Ltd. The bridesmaid’s dresses were navy blue from Budget Savvy Bridal Wear in Burnley.
Theme or Colour Scheme
There wasn’t really a colour theme. The flowers that I wanted in the marquee were bright, summery colours, the bridesmaids were in navy blue (as this colour suited everyone), the best men, father, father in law and ushers were all in different coloured chinos with matching waistcoats (by Legend Bridal Designs Ltd).
I had pale pink roses with orchids. The bridesmaids had smaller versions of mine and my daughter’s was smaller again. We rented flowers for the church. All flowers were from Floral Designs by Beverly Richards in Padiham.
I decorated jars with lace, hessian and hessian string. The flowers were a mixture of gerberas, carnations and roses in a variety of bright colours: yellow, orange, pink with green grass. I put diamantes and pearls into the flowers. Six jars were placed on the table,
3 flowers and 3 candles and diamonds were sprinkled on the table. The Marquee had ivy and pea lights around all arches.
We had one meal. A barbeque at 5.30. we sourced the meat from Kieran’s brother in-law who is a butcher, and then got caterers to cook it. The caterers provided salads, condiments, profiteroles, meringues, plates, cutlery, table clothes, platters. They also served and cleared tables. The caterers (Classic Cuisine website: simply-classic.com) were amazing. We couldn’t have asked for better people to serve us on our day.
The cake was white icing with 2 fruit layers and one chocolate layer. We also had an extra madeira cake that had white icing which the caterers cut up as extra. The flowers were all handmade flowers using icing in bright summery colours made by Kieran’s Aunty Barbara
We had a DJ for the entertainment. Karl Hunnyman
Buy or DIY your Stationery
We designed our invitations on Vista Print. We did not have any seating arrangements so did not need further stationary. Everyone could sit where they wanted.
Personal or Handmade Touches
We did most of it ourselves. We had a sweet and snack buffet. Sweets were in jars and we had bags of crisps in small crates. As we only had one meal, when people arrived, they could help themselves to snacks from the buffet so they weren’t hungry before the meal.
Kieran bought me a present to open on the morning of the wedding. He bought diamond earring to match my engagement ring and two bottles of perfume (Gucci and Caroline Herrera). He also wrote the most beautiful card ‘To my wife to be…’ saying how excited he was to be getting married and how much he loved me.
Another highlight was when I was walking down the aisle with my dad towards Kieran and the immense feelings that came over me: excited, nervous, ecstatic, scared, happy, loved, overwhelmed. I couldn’t wait to get to the altar and be next to Kieran. When I arrived at
the altar, all my worries, tears, nervousness disappeared. It was forecast to rain all day and it rained all morning. When we came out of the church, the sun started to shine and shone for the rest of the day (apart from one big downpour!)
Another highlight was seeing everyone that we loved sharing our special day with us. I sat back for 5 minutes and watched everyone and took it all in. I did not want to forget a thing!
Advice to other couples
Discuss what you both want out of the day. What things are special to you two. Work together and split up the organisation and ringing around companies. Do not let everyone else dictate to you what you should do. It is yours and your husband to be day no-one else’s.
Order your dress early to make sure it will arrive on time. Be organised, have a wedding book that you write everything in and take it everywhere with you. Make sure that you give jobs to bridesmaids and ushers for the day then you or your husband do not need to worry about anything. Enjoy the day and remember – whatever you forget to do for the day doesn’t matter as no one else knows about it!
When people said that it had been the best wedding they had ever been to. Very different and so relaxed.
