Todays wedding is a very special one for me as it comes from my home town of Sheffield. It is a fabulous wedding, featuring a fantastic local venue. Full of industrial history this Sheffield wedding is brimming with local touches and so much for the guests to do. The wedding takes place in Kelham Island Museum, so not only is it a classic industrial style venue but full of Sheffield memorabilia. The photos by Mark Tierney show off the venue perfectly and showcase what a wonderful day Jane and Tistan had. I do love an industrial wedding and this one has it all!
Jane and Tristan were married on 26th July 2014 at Kelham Island Museum, Sheffield. ‘Jane is from Sheffield and the venue had local beer, food and we loved the industrial setting. This was a place Jane visited when she was young. We had 110 guests in total and it took 6 months to plan.’
How they met
Met through a uni friend and have been together nearly 10 years.
The Proposal
It was in front of the meeting point statue at St. Pancras Station and followed by a surprise trip to Brussels. Jane had no idea the proposal was coming and was more pre-occupied with finding a toilet when Trist got down on one knee.
How did you allocate your budget
We wanted it to be a personal day and enjoyed making things for our wedding rather than spending lots of money. We probably spent the most on the venue, but made most decorations and stationary ourselves.
How did you choose your photographer
He was recommended by a friend who was also a photographer. Our friend had seen Mark Tierney’s website and thought his photos would really suit our wedding and he wasn’t wrong!
The Dress
My dress was from sincerity and I bought my shoes at John Lewis- they were plain ivory from rainbow.
The Suit and Bridesmaids
The suit was bought from House of Fraser (New and Lingwood) and the dresses came from Coast.
Theme or Colour Scheme
We decided on dark blue and red- Trist is a big Crystal Palace fan and Jane liked this colour scheme.
Flowers
We didn’t have any apart from the bouquet and button holes as we thought they didn’t go with the venue. Instead we made stands for tables out of champagne bottles to act as photo trees- too bad we had to drink thirteen bottle of champagne to make them!
Decoration
Plain white fairly lights, lots of candles. We didn’t need much else as the venue spoke for itself.
Food
Bangers and mash and apple crumble. We also had a 90s sweet bar.
Wedding Cake
Homemade fruit cake and home made figurines.
Entertainment
We used a DJ and a playlist from our iPod
Buy or DIY your Stationery
DIY stationary all the way
Personal or Handmade Touches
All invites were made
Place settings were jars for sweets with a fridge magnet inside with a photo of the bride and room.
Centre pieces for tables were the green bottle photo trees
Homemade cake
Seating plan was drawn as a picture on canvas
Each place also had a bottle of Henderson’s relish with a wedding message
Washing line of photos of bride and groom
Friend provided a picket fence photo booth
Special Moments
The demo of the biggest steam engine in England which is housed in the museum
Having all of our family and mates in one place at the same time for the day
Advice to other couples
It’s great fun making things for your wedding and makes the day feel so much more personal to you and your partner.
Biggest surprise
The heat- Sheffield was in the middle of a heat wave! This meant the guests could enjoy the River Don and industrial scenery as well as the museum inside.
