Introducing the Diary of a Boho Bride…

“Hey lovely Boho readers! I can’t believe it’s that time already and I’m back here sharing the start of our journey.

So we’ve set a date and decided that we’d like a relaxing day sharing lots of fun and laughter with our loved ones. First thing on our to do list was to create a list!  We love a good list and planning our big day couldn’t be a better excuse to start writing a one. Sitting down together, we wrote everything we needed with a rough budget including; guests, venue, photographer, dresses, suits, flowers… the list continues, although we’ve pretty much agreed it now.

With approximately 70 guests to invite it was important to us to find an intimate venue with a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. We decided that we’d like our guests to be with us throughout our day to see us say I do and celebrate into the night. So the search began for our perfect venue… As any bride and groom to be will know, agreeing and finding the perfect venue is both exciting and a challenge… it was for us anyway.

We spent many weekends traveling around viewing potential venues and leaving with the feeling of “it was lovely, but something was just not right”. It can become extremely disheartening when you can’t find that special place. Many couples are very lucky and may even know before they get engaged where they’d like to get married. As I’ve moved further up the country in the years, I’m a bit of a way from my roots, however, we’ve happily set up home here and we thought what better place to get married than in the quaint little village we live in. We have so many beautiful venues on our doorstep that we completely overlooked them.

The Venues

St Oswald’s Church, Malpas is where we shall first see each other on our wedding day and leave as Husband and Wife… eeekkk! The church stands on the highest point in the village with it’s English Gothic architecture, it’s beautiful inside and out. We’ve seen many of my daughters Harvest Festivals, Christmas Plays and Concerts here; it holds very found memories for all three of us. We couldn’t wish for a more perfect place to say our vows and walking out of there as Husband and Wife seems so surreal at the moment… I’m sure it will sink in nearer the time.

As lovers of gin, Peroni and great food we often find ourselves in the Cock O’Barton. It was during one of our lunch time treats here that it suddenly hit us, we love this place, it’s friendly, welcoming, intimate, has great food and serves my favourite gin & bitter lemon and Jon’s ice cold Peroni! The staff are fabulous, they’ll do anything and understand just what we’re looking to do.

Fingers crossed we’ll be blessed with good weather so we can make the most of the lawn area. I love the thought of hay bales and picnic blankets for our guests to relax on whilst enjoying the scrummy bbq, while others have fun playing the garden games and acting silly with the props at the photo booth. I’m not quite sure yet what we’ll do if it does rain, a picnic inside maybe?

Wedding Theme

There’s no wedding theme as such, I spent ages trying to figure out a theme and colour scheme, but it just wasn’t us. We love and enjoy such a variety of things that it was proving difficult to decide on a specific theme. Instead, the plan is that our wedding day will be a mash of everything we love from vintage accessories, bbq food, homemade cakes, fun & games to live music and time with our family and friends.

I’ve already started collecting cake stands, jars, bottles and little vintage pieces. There are some amazing little gems to be found, my bargain so far has to be a set of 1960’s suitcases that I’ll be using for various displays throughout our reception. I’m looking forward to showing you how they turn out, although turning my hand to DIY is going to be interesting. Thankfully I have my Sister-In-Law to be – self confessed a DIY enthusiast to help, although I don’t think she knows yet what she’s in for!

With our guest list set and venues booked our search began to find a photographer who would be able to capture our day just how we envisage and those all important Save the Dates. I’ll save this journey for next time.

Just under 14 months to go, not that I’m counting!”

Much Love,
Kerry & Jon
