Diary of a Boho Bride – Louise and Chris, Entry 8: Flowers, DIY and Pre-Wedding Nerves

diary of a boho bride Happy Friday everyone!  Hey, don’t forget it’s Father’s Day this Sunday; you still have time to create a handmade masterpiece or nip out to buy your Dad’s favourite tipple! Today we are back with Boho Bride Louise, and with only a few weeks to go before her big day, just how is she feeling so close to her wedding?  Last time she spoke about the venue, photographer and food choices and today she is going to tell more about her suppliers – the finishing touches in particular.

I’ll hand you over to Louise…

It doesn’t seem 2 minutes ago that I wrote my introductory post for Boho and here I am drawing close to the end of my time here on the blog. Which can only mean one thing; I’m nearly getting married! And a big welcome to the new Boho brides – I’ll look forward to reading their entries about how their planning is going and how they would like their wedding to take shape and I’ll probably get a bit jealous that they get to do it all afresh! I have to admit that since my last entry, not much more planning has happened but our friends’ wedding has taken place and it was such a lovely day; the sun shone, much fun was had and both bride and groom looked gorgeous. I will admit that with each wedding I go to, I swing between intense nervousness and feeling incredibly calm. I see friends on their wedding days just looking so happy and their friends and families are so happy just being there to celebrate with them that nobody really cares if the bunting isn’t straight, that the napkins don’t quite match the table runners or if they trip over their vows. (It’s tripping up the aisle that I’m worried about!). So it’s with slight nervous excitement that I enter the last couple of months before the wedding. There’s still a lot to do and a lot to sort out not least some hotels still to book for the honeymoon but I am *still* feeling calm about it all.  We both have our respective stag and hen do’s to attend. And I have to say that I slightly nervous about my hen do. Not because I doubt my friends know what I would like to do, but because I’m not in control ( and I like to claim I’m not a control freak!). I do know that we’re heading back to my hometown of Liverpool and that they do have a surprises up their sleeves but really I just want to spend a weekend with friends and family,  eating and drinking, hopefully in the sunshine – I’ll fill you all in next time. I spoke last time about some of my suppliers so I thought that I’d give you all a bit more info about the more aesthetic side of the wedding; the flowers and the DIY.

When we first started planning the wedding, I did intend to do my our bouquets and buttonholes but quickly forgot about that idea when I realised the work likely to be involved so we’re getting the flowers from the gorgeous Swallows and Damsons  based here in Sheffield. A quick look at any blog that features weddings from Sheffield and Swallows and Damsons will make an appearance. Their creations have a fantastic kind of dramatic yet natural look about them that makes you just want to touch….well, it does me anyway. When we went for our consultation, there was the fact that I didn’t have ( or want) a colour scheme was playing on my mind – surely everything needed to tie in? But on speaking to Anna, I realised that I didn’t need to compromise on what I wanted from our flowers and our day and that I certainly didn’t need to buy-in to the completely matchy-matchyness of weddings-goneby.  Swallows and Damsons will be supplying mine and my bridesmaid’s bouquet as well as buttonholes for Chris and his 3 best men. We decided to try to do the table flowers ourselves so Anna is providing us with tonnes of gyp so that we can load those gin and beer bottles up that we’ve been storing for a year or so…any excuse, eh?

So, the DIY. I may have mentioned that I desperately want a streamer curtain and it is absolutely going to be the one thing that I get a bit bridezilla over and I haven’t even started it in earnest yet – mainly because we have nowhere to store approx 100ft of streamers and crepe paper. So I think that when Chris is on his stag do, I’ll get the hot glue gun out and get going – a couple of weeks should be time enough *she says crossing her fingers*. We plan to have balloons, maybe a bit of bunting and candles, candles and more candles – but I guess that this is all of the stuff that comes together at the end?!

So, next time you hear from me; I’ll have been on my hen do, I’ll have had my hair and make-up trial, I’ll almost be a married woman and I’ll have started that bloody curtain!

Love Louise,
