I have a super fun engagement shoot for you today thanks to photographer Nick Rutter. Danielle and Daniel had their engagement shoot last month and chose Redhill Funfair in Bournemouth as the perfect backdrop. The couple had their first proper date at a fun fair where Dan asked Danielle to be his girlfriend so the location of the shoot had a special meaning to them. The shoot is full of fun and colour and it looks like Danielle and Dan are really enjoying themselves. Good luck to the couple who’s wedding is next Saturday!
How they met
We met on a night out in the summer of 2006 although our first actual date was a dog walk! We have two beautiful Staffies, Charlie our boy and Bean our girl, who we knew needed to get on before we could consider another date!
Luckily they were inseparable, like us and when Dan plucked up the courage to ask me to be his girlfriend at Christchurch Funfair in August 2006, I was too bowled over by the teddy bear he’d won me to say no!
Later that year, we moved in together, much to the dog’s delight and almost 8 years on we’ve had 9 puppies, 2 chewed water pipes, 2 kitchen floors, countless innocent tea-towels have lost their lives in tug-of-war games and every dog bed they’ve ever had has been eaten! Seeing the unconditional love they have for each other, the way they hate being apart (even for the vets!) and the way they always fight over the warm spot reminds us so much of our relationship and the closeness we share. Its cheesy but we are total soul-mates and can’t wait to become Mr & Mrs Read!
The proposal
Dan thinks I’m terrible with losing jewellery, earrings, bracelets, you name it, apparently I can’t keep hold of anything for long! Around Christmas time 2009, I remember a few of my friends were announcing engagements and planning their weddings and I have to admit, I felt a little left out! I suggested it might be nice if he were to ask me to marry him, perhaps with a big sparkly ring and he should make it all romantic… his face was a picture! He said although he would love to marry me, I would only lose the engagement ring! Cheeky so-and-so.
I begged and pleaded and swore I wouldn’t lose it, I promised faithfully to cherish it forever and told him to reconsider if I were able to wear and keep a ring for a week! He challenged me and said I’d never be able to keep track of it for an entire week! I picked a cheap engagement-style one that I had lying in my jewelry box and with a confident smile, put it on my ring finger, determined to prove him wrong!
A week went by and just as we got into bed on New Years Eve, Dan smiled at me and said ‘I told you you’d lose it!’
I had only taken the ring off for bed so I insisted I get it because I knew exactly where it was! I walked to our lounge in the dark, over to the coffee table and picked up the ring I had been wearing for an entire week to prove I had been able to keep it without losing it!
It felt unusually heavy and as I turned into the light of the hallway and opened my hand, I saw Dan stood with a smile on his face and I knew this was a different ring!
The diamond sparkled and I stuttered to ask ‘is this..?!’, ‘yes’ he said ‘you’d better try it on!’. I squealed with delight and he asked the magical question, ‘Will you marry me!?’ I could just about muster a shaky ‘Yes’ before I started to cry and as we cuddled in the dark he whispered…. ‘Don’t lose it will you!’.
What do you love most about each other
Dan loves Danielle’s cheeky smile and the way she makes him laugh everyday, some of the sweetest, funniest things she says are in total innocence!
Danielle loves the way Dan still surprises her; flowers, notes, her favourite biscuits! Even after 8 years together, she still gets butterflies when she sees him!
The Wedding
24th May 2014 at Kings Arms Hotel, Christchurch, Dorset
The theme
We have a vintage theme for our wedding, a relaxed ‘summer garden party’ style with lots of lace, bunting and muted colours. We wanted the wedding style to mirror us as a couple, relaxed, natural and homely.
What you are looking forward to the most?
Danielle: I’m looking forward to seeing Dan for the first time when I walk down the aisle! I’ll be trying to hold back the tears and keep it together! Dan: The Ice-Cream Tricycle!!!! I do love Ice-Cream…. But really, I am looking forward to spending a few quiet moments with my beautiful Wife to take it all in and tell her how happy she makes me every day that we’re together.
