Anna and Glenn’s Relaxed, Pastel Wedding By Jasmine Jade Photography

Wow the week is whizzing by again! It’s a bank holiday tomorrow, how did that happen so quickly? Anyway before we all break up for hopefully a lovely Easter break, lets take a look at this beautiful pastel wedding that has been sent into me by Jasmine Jade Photography. The couple Anna and Glenn, chose a gorgeous pastel theme that gave them lots of creative freedom. They used cakes, beach huts and bunting within their decoration, while Anna really went to town on all her homemade projects. Glenn put the grooms outfits together himself sourcing accessories from ebay and really thinking outside the box. A lovely summer wedding that is super pretty and colourful.

The best bit was being able to share the most important day of our lives with all of our favourite people. There was such a lovely atmosphere and people were having fun, which was our main priority.

Anna and Glenn shared their wedding vows in front of 80 guests, during their ceremony at East Mersea Hall in Essex on 10th August. “We chose the venue because Anna grew up on the Island and East Mersea Hall has a really intimate feel about it with beautiful surroundings. The owner, Sarah is a star and we knew that she would ensure that our day was perfect. This was the only venue that we visited! We were engaged for just under two years before we tied the knot, which was just about right as it gave us some breathing space to create the wedding we had in our heads.”

How they met
We met on a trip to Galway for a friend’s 30th birthday. Anna was with her friend she’d met through work and I was there because it was my cousin who was turning 30. From that point we were friends and often went out with the same group. Eventually after a few years our friendship turned into romance and it wasn’t long until Anna moved into Glenn’s bachelor pad and had two cats running about the place.

The Proposal
After Anna’s birthday celebrations, which involved several birthday drinks, we were walking home and I had already made the decision I wanted to ask Anna to marry me, but the grand proposal just seemed too far away what with wanting to whisk her away to a sunny climate and organise some far-fetched idea to give her the ring (and hope). So on that rainy evening with a bag of chips in my hand I somehow had clarity in my mind for a few moments and realised it wasn’t about flashy proposals and expensive gifts, it was about truly meaning it from the bottom of your heart and at that very moment I did. So throwing away the crazy ideals I kneeled down on one knee (into a puddle) and asked her right there and then. She said yes, I think just to get me out of that puddle!
The next day we woke up and she asked me if I could remember what I’d done the night before, I simply responded with “I suppose I best get you a ring” and promptly phoned her dad Andrew to get his retrospective blessing – he was over the moon.

How did you choose your photographer?
When looking for a photographer we naturally turned to Google. There were plenty on offer, but having to work with images all day Glenn was very fussy. Trying to get someone to our standards was hard work, but Glenn found Jasmine Jade online and had made up his mind. Anna took a look at her work and agreed she was great. But when we met Jasmine that sealed the deal, as she was so easy-going and fun, whilst also showing her confidence and professionalism through her work. We didn’t bother seeing anyone else, we knew we had the right person for the job, just like when choosing our venue – we just knew it was right.

The dress
Anna visited only two dress shops and found her dress in Serenity Brides, Colchester. She set aside one day to find her dress and was adamant that was all she would need, she was right! Anna’s dress is an ‘Impression Bridal’ gown, called Blossom, in diamond white.
The veil completed my outfit and everyone complemented me on it, again I hadn’t seen anyone wear a veil like this. It was a Neive Lace veil also purchased from Serenity Brides, Colchester. I couldn’t keep my veil on all day as it was so long and kept getting trodden on! In the evening I switched it out for a beautiful tiara: Beatrice Pearl Wedding Tiara (Silver/White) from The Little Things In Life
I didn’t want your regular Plain Jane wedding shoes so opted for a pair of Irregular Choice shoes. They are called ‘Summer Patty, Union Jack’ and I am able to wear them again. Necklace matched my tiara from The Little Things In Life, earrings Jon Richard from Debenhams, bracelet-was my something borrowed from my Sister-in-law.

The suit and bridesmaids
All the suits came from Next, much to the surprise of Glenn as he had dismissed Next as being too cheap! However, we were on a budget and the suits were actually really impressive in quality and style. Glenn knew he wanted bow ties, but it took a while to get permission from Anna – but it was the right choice. They came from Swagger & Swoon’s online website and were bought (like many other things) without seeing them in person, which always made matching colours fun! The shoes came from Deichman budget shoe shop as we wanted something a bit different and affordable. The shoes were very popular, as were the bow ties. The braces came from Ebay, and the watch from The Branded Watch Shop. Shirts were from Debenhams as were the colourful socks.
Bridesmaids dresses were bought from Divine Gowns, Chelmsford.

The theme or colour scheme
Anna is a keen baker and simply will not be disturbed when The Great British Bake Off is on TV. Her new hobby came about not long after we started dating in response to a birthday cake I made for her which looked like a camper van. She started making cupcakes, big cakes, in fact all sorts of things and is well-known at work now for her excellent baking. This love of homemade treats and art, along with my love of design naturally led us to a vintage influenced theme.
We also wanted to tie this in with Mersea in some way and we incorporated the pretty pastel beach huts into our “Save the Date” cards and invitations. This inspired our choice of pastel colour scheme, we didn’t want to stick to just two colours and try to match everything together so we had greens, blues, yellows and pinks!

The flowers
Our flowers were created by Lorraine and Nicky at Shrinking Violet. They were recommended by our photographer and we loved their quirky ideas and designs……they are very passionate about what they do and are lovely ladies. Anna wanted a country garden feel to the flowers and Lorraine and Nicky suggested blooms that would fit the bill. Anna loves peonies and these were incorporated into the table decorations.

The decoration
Bunting was the main decoration which was sourced from Ebay (our friend!). Anna made the mini bunting that went around each table centrepiece. We also had some wooden signs made by a local which were hand painted.

The food and wedding cake
we opted for an afternoon tea wedding breakfast which was provided by Sweet Success Catering. In the evening we had a fish and chip van which everyone loved! The cake was bright, quirky and incorporated Mersea beach huts. Anna wouldn’t trust just anyone to create our wedding cake and asked the Maid of Honour, Charlotte Cawdron to do it. Charlotte trained at Colchester Institute to become and Chef and has worked all over the world……..she is also Anna’s baking partner in crime!

The entertainment
During the day we wanted a relaxed feel and had Jamie perform an acoustic set whilst having welcoming drinks and during the wedding breakfast. He is professional and performed a wide genre of songs. In the evening Christie performed for our guests and provided the disco. She has an amazing voice.

Buy or DIY stationery
One of our friends created a screen print of Mersea beach huts and this was used on our invitations. Glenn designed the text in our invites, thank you cards, etc and we both worked together to produce the table plan. From the invites design we had a set of fonts and colours which we used throughout all printed material, bit like a corporate identity!

Personal or handmade touches
Anna slaved away in her evenings and time off to hand paint each favour for the girls. They were heart-shaped wooden gift plaques each with their own beach hut and guests name. The guys got a much simpler gift; a miniature bottle of alcohol with a hand-made tag with their name. The children had a jam jar filled with penny sweets and was covered with fabric and tied with string, these also had the homemade labels on them. All of these doubled up as place names, another money saver!
During the evening a friend of ours (Shellie Wall) set up a photo booth where our guests could go and have a bit of fun! We weren’t sure how it would be received but everyone loved it!

Special moments
The favourite part of the day was being able to share the most important day of our lives with all of our favourite people. There was such a lovely atmosphere and people were having fun, our main priority.
One of Anna’s best moments was her Dad’s reaction to seeing her in her dress, the poor man had to wait in the garden until we were ready! Jasmine captured that moment in her photos perfectly.

Advice to other couples
It will be stressful planning a wedding, especially as it gets closer and if you don’t have enough time due to work commitments etc. So do your best to afford yourself time off from work the week before and remember it’s supposed to be fun, so avoid taking your stress out on your partner – spot you’re stressed and comfort each other before you blow your top! Also, rope people in to help you as it helps them to feel involved and gives you one less thing to do! No wedding will ever be perfect when it comes to planning or execution. Something will always go wrong or not be quite right, saying that we both had so much fun we didn’t worry if we were running five minutes late or something didn’t look quite right. If we did it again we would make sure we sampled the fish and chip’s as we were too busy mingling to get any!

The biggest surprise
During the evening a friend of ours set up a photo booth where our guests could go and have a bit of fun! We weren’t sure how it would be received but everyone loved it! The hens also performed a little dirty dancing from a workshop they attended on the hen party.

Marrying my husband Jason in 2012 was undoubtedly the best day of my life. Planning the wedding allowed me to understand the importance of every detail and not just the photography. This is why I want to learn about my Bride and Grooms as a couple, their style and priorities for the day and then tailor how I work to suit them and their big day.
I take time to explore their needs and their desires for the big day. The pre wedding shoot is essential to help build on this rapport allowing me to recognise the tiny yet significant moments that really do matter, ensuring that my photography is truly unique to each couple I photograph.
I will help capture all the special moments throughout the big day and provide a luxury wedding album that tells their story, their way.
