Ask The Experts – Everything You Need to Know about Wedding Insurance with John Lewis Insurance

John Lewis Insurance

Today we are talking about the sometimes confusing subject of Wedding Insurance. I have enlisted the experts at John Lewis Wedding Insurance to tell us more about wedding Insurance in general and also about the services they offer.
I always tell the couples I work with to purchase wedding insurance as soon as they can, why? well a wedding is going to be one of the biggest most expensive things you spend your money on. You wouldn’t think about buying a car without insuring it, so why would you not insure your wedding? There are so many outside factors that could affect your big day, why not insure against any of those going wrong?

What sort of thing am I talking about? well I will let the experts tell you more.

I’ll pass the blog over to John Lewis Insurance……….

Why do you think people should purchase wedding insurance?
Weddings are one of life’s big occasions and while no one likes to think of anything going wrong, sometimes things just don’t go to plan. That’s where Wedding Insurance comes in. From the florist to the photographer and the caterers to the dress-maker, a lot of people make your wedding special. But if a supplier lets you down, wedding insurance could protect your money. And with our Cover Level 1 starting from just £58, it’s a really cost-effective way to protect your big day.

How soon after getting engaged should couples buy their insurance?
It’s a good idea to take Wedding Insurance out as soon as you’ve paid for any part of your event, so that your deposits are covered. John Lewis Wedding Insurance can be taken out up to two years before the wedding date.

Are they still covered if they only buy it a few weeks prior to the wedding?
Yes, anything already booked or paid for will be covered from the purchase date of the policy. You should always make sure you have written contracts with all suppliers.

What sort of options do you have?
John Lewis Wedding Insurance offers six levels of cover so you can find the right protection whatever the size and budget of your wedding or civil partnership.
Here’s just a few examples of what John Lewis Wedding Insurance can cover you for:

  • Illness: Wedding Insurance can cover you if you have to cancel or postpone your wedding because the bride, groom, close relatives or wedding party fall ill, if its inappropriate to continue with the ceremony and it is not due to a pre-existing medical condition.
  • Failure of suppliers: You could be financially protected if a supplier goes bust or fails to turn up – we can reimburse any irrecoverable deposits you’ve made.
  • Cancellation Cover: If you have to cancel or rearrange your wedding, Cancellation Cover could pay you any deposits or additional costs when it’s inappropriate to continue the ceremony and it isn’t due to a pre-existing medical condition.
  • Bad weather: If the weather prevents you or at least 50% of your guests getting to the venue, then you could be covered.
  • Protection for all the special details: your wedding cake, wedding flowers, wedding transport, wedding rings and wedding dress can all be covered for loss or damage.

Can you give me some information on your pricing structure?
John Lewis Wedding Insurance Cover Level 1 costs just £58 for up to £10,000 of cover. To make sure you can select a cover level to suit your needs, there are then five more tiered levels to choose from, offering up to £100,000 of cover. Wedding Insurance is a one-off payment, making it a really simple and cost-effective way to protect your wedding.

Is there a certain budget wedding that should get insurance or do you cover budget weddings as well as larger ones?
Because we offer six levels of cover ranging from £10,000 to £100,000, couples can select the level that suits their budget. The level of cover you need will depend on the size and cost of your wedding and reception. If you consider each separate cost associated with your wedding, this should help you work out the level of cover you need.

Can I change my cover once I have taken out a policy?
If you would like to add optional Overseas Wedding Cover, optional Marquee Cover or upgrade your existing level, just give us a call on 0845 078 7527.

Do you cover marquee weddings?
Yes, we offer Marquee Cover as an optional extra that can be selected when you buy your Wedding Insurance. Marquee Cover provides cover for loss or damage to the marquee as well as protection for:

  • staging
  • chairs
  • tables
  • lighting
  • flooring
  • equipment hired or leased by you.

Do you cover weddings abroad?
Yes, we can. When you buy your Wedding Insurance, you can choose to add optional Overseas Wedding Cover when selecting your cover level. However, it’s worth noting that you should still have a separate Travel Insurance policy to cover your entire trip and your honeymoon.
