So today’s wonderful winter wedding has been sent into me by Jonathan Ryder and I have to say what a dress the bride is wearing! I absolutely love it! I love when I get surprised by things in the wedding world and this dress certainly made me gasp! as for the bride, well isn’t she just stunning!
Katie and Jimmy who were married on 29th December ‘The ceremony was held at St Brides Parish, Kilbride in Northern Ireland and the reception at Galgorm Resort & Spa, Four Seasons Suite. The church is Katie’s family church and has been for many generations. It is beautiful and we could not have been married anywhere else, it just wouldn’t have been the same. We had 64 guest and it was 2 and half years from engagement until wedding’
How they met
We met for a haircut.. Jimmy became my hairdresser, and the rest is history! We have been together for just over 5 years.
The proposal
We talked lots about how much we wanted to have a picnic on the beach one day, Northern Ireland weather is not great, so our opportunities were limited!! One Thursday morning I woke to go to work as usual. Jimmy said ‘its ok, your off today’ so immediately I knew something was up! We eventually had our picnic on the beach at Helen’s Bay and he presented me with a pink cupcake with ‘Marry me Katie’ iced on it! Very romantic!! Amazing memories..
Why did you choose your photographer?
Our photographer, Jonathan Ryder, is a client of Jimmy’s. He took engagement photos for us.. They were amazing and we loved his relaxed approach so we were very excited about having him to capture our wedding day. He is a very talented guy.
The dress
The dress was from Petticoat Lane in Hillsborough by a designer called Olivia Couture. The shoes were Christian Louboutin., Gus.
The suit and bridesmaids
The suit was from Topman. Bridesmaids dresses again from Petticoat Lane from the Dessy collection.
Theme or colour scheme
Our theme was really Taupe and Navy. Mainly winter icy colours..
Food
Confit of duck on spicy noodles. Roasted red pepper soup. Roast sirloin of beef with seasonal vegetables. Rhubarb and strawberry crumble with drambuie ice cream…..Delicious!!
Entertainment
Arco string quartet played during the ceremony and until the meal. Arco were brilliant.. They provided such a lovely atmosphere for the guests and their take on modern music with string instruments had everyone talking and trying to decide what song they were playing! There was then a disco provided by Barneys Startrax Disco. We decided on a disco so people could have a choice of music. It was great people had lots of requests and the dance floor was full a night long!
Flowers
Flowers in the church were done my my aunt – mainly a mix of lillies and cream roses with lots of ivy, greenery and candles to fill the deep windowsills. The bouquets and table centres were done by Sally’s florist. We kept these fairly simple too, cream roses again and some greenery.
The flowers were amazing. They really made a such a difference. We wanted everything to still feel a little Christmas, so we had candles everywhere and lots of green foliage. It worked well.
Decoration
We kept everything fairly simple. The Four Seasons Suite is stark and white and amazing so you really don’t need to add much. There were Christmas decorations up so we really needed nothing else. The table centres were crystal candelabra with some roses and pearls and some tea lights on the tables. It was the perfect amount.
Personal/DIY touches
Our table names were also favours. They were cake pops individually stamped with a snowflake with a K&J in the middle. They were bagged and named and looked great. They were made especially for us by our good friends at Little Treats.
Special moments
Our vows were particularly poignant. At that point it felt like there was no one else in the world but us, Incredible feeling. The speeches were a highlight, we were definitely a little worried as to how they would turn out but in the end everyone did great. We all laughed and cried, and laughed some more..
Biggest surprise
Jimmy – How beautiful my bride looked!
Katie – How smooth everything ran. And that we managed (just about) to say our vows without crying!!
Advice
I know it’s such a cliché but you do not realise until you’ve gone through it but really just enjoy the day, it just goes by so quickly. As I look back at our photos I feel like I’m looking at someone else’s wedding, I can’t believe it’s all over!! Smile, stand up straight, and no tears. It will be the happiest day of your life!

Beautiful wedding and I’m loving the new slider Kelly! Well done! :))
Thanks Dom, so glad you like the slider, it took a while to get it right but Mark came good xxx
Oh my word. Gorgeous dress! And blummin’ gorgeous bride. Wow! x
Beautiful dress. Congrats.
I really dig the bride’s dress. This couple really did the “winter wedding” theme perfect. They definitely used winter’s charm to their own advantage.
