Lucy and Murray’s Magical Malta Wedding

I have THE most stunning wedding for you today and it comes all the way from Malta and it is filled with sunshine, sea, great views and a gorgeous couple. It was shot by my good friend Jon at S6 Photography, who once again he has delivered a first class set of photos. I’m sure you will agree that a wedding like this is just what we all need to see on a rainy cold July day! I can just feel the warmth of the sunshine beaming though these amazing images!

Malta Wedding

The gorgeous couple are Lucy and Murray who were married on 5th June 2012 at Castello Zamitello, Mgarr in Malta they also had a party back home in Sheffield.
We had 38 close family and friends. It has taken us about 18 months to plan the wedding in total. Having the time to plan was great as we never really became stressed.’

They describe their wedding as ‘Our love, our wedding, our way!’  ‘Our wedding was the most magical day of our lives which was made even more special by the venue and our family and friends that joined us.’

Malta Wedding

It really is an outstanding wedding, and so beautifully shot by Jon. The location is breathtaking, the views from the cliff top are amazing, I’m sure Lucy and Murray will have a whole host of images printed off to adorn their home. The wedding itself is beautiful, such a great setting for the ceremony and what a fantastic reception. Lucy looks amazing in her Maggie Sottero. Weddings like this make me want to get married all over again!

How they met
We have been together for 9 years. My sister worked with Murray and introduced us to one another at a party and from then on we were inseparable.

The proposal
The proposal was very romantic. We were on holiday with my family in Scotland and Murray took me to a beautiful place called Culzean castle and during a romantic picnic in the gardens of the castle Murray asked me to marry him. I cried with joy, gave him the biggest cuddle and kiss ever and said YES!

The Venue
We went to our friends wedding 2 years prior to ours which was abroad in Zante, their wedding was amazing so this helped us to decide to get married abroad. It was also important to us to find somewhere relatively private for us to get married and having been to Malta before this was a special place to us so we searched and found the perfect venue in Castello Zamitello. We then booked the wedding through a company called Dreamweddings who were amazing in all organisational aspects of our wedding.

The dress
My dress was by Maggie Sottero. Shoes from Dorothy Perkins. Hairslide bought from Blushes Bridal studio and was made by an independent designer. Earrings and bracelet were bought as a present from Murray on the day of the wedding.

The suit and bridesmaids
We had the suits made by Moss Bros. The older bridesmaid dresses were from Debenhams and the younger bridesmaid dresses were from BHS

Theme
Our colour theme was purple

Food
We had a Maltese BBQ which consisted of various antipasti dishes to start and then various meats, kebabs, lasagne, rice pilaffs etc…with a selection of delicious little desserts.

Entertainment
We created our own playlist of music and hooked up our ipod to some speakers and created our own entertainment

Flowers
The bouquets included off white roses, heather and other purple flowers

Personal touches
• We made our own wedding favours as we wanted to add a personal touch and wanted our guests to be able to take something away from the day. So I ordered little silver bucket pales for every guest and filled them with Murraymints and Jellybeans, we chose these as these are our nicknames for one another.
• We also wanted to move away from the traditional guest book so instead of this we bought around 30 postcards in Malta and asked guests to write a postcard with a message to us, we have since put these into an album.
• For the party back in Sheffield we decided to buy a blank jigsaw and asked guests to write messages on jigsaw pieces. We intend to have the jigsaw framed in the next few weeks.

Special moments
All of it, we cannot pinpoint anything specific as it was the most magical day of our lives. However, what made our day super special was having our close family and friends join us. One particular special moment was when our photographer, Jon took both myself and Murray away after the ceremony to have some pictures taken and that was really good as it gave us chance to spend a bit of quality time together.

Planning Advice
Give yourselves plenty of time to plan which will allow you to enjoy the time you have when the wedding gets close and on the wedding day relax and take in as much as possible as the day/night doesn’t last forever. A lot of people gave us similar advice and we were glad that we took it.
On the night of our wedding we also made sure that we took ten minutes out together to simply reflect and enjoy a moment and that is also something that we recommend any bride and groom to do.
Oh and one last piece of advice if you are getting married abroad don’t leave your passport on the dining table as the dog may get hold of it and eat it the night before you fly! This happened to us and we would not recommend this happening to anyone!

Biggest surprise
Murray’s biggest surprise was seeing me of course! And my biggest surprise was how calm and relaxed I was as I expected to be the complete opposite, I think the reason I could be so relaxed was because everyone else around me did the panicking.
