Ask The Experts: 2026 Wedding Colour Trends

Choosing your wedding colours is a bit like choosing the heartbeat of your celebration. It sets the tone, shapes the mood, and quietly influences every design detail from start to finish.

And as we look ahead to 2026, couples are getting bolder and more intentional with their colour choices than before. This year’s palettes are all about expressing who you are while creating an atmosphere your guests won’t soon forget.

Here’s how colour is taking centre stage in the year ahead, and how these trends are weaving their way into every detail.

Bold palettes

2026 is shaping up to be the year of brave color choices. Couples are stepping away from the “safe” tones of years past and leaning into hues that make a real impact.

Sarah Blessinger of Kindred Weddings and Events shares, “For 2026, I think we will start seeing more bold colors and combinations. Couples are becoming more comfortable with bright pops of color used as foundational colors and fewer neutral colors.

Many find that bolder palettes help set the mood from the very first touchpoint. A punchy tone on your invitation suite, for example, gives guests an immediate sense of the personality behind the day. And when those vivid colors carry through to table decor, florals, and even fashion choices? You end up with a celebration that feels cohesive and full of character.

Teals

If there’s one shade making a quiet-but-mighty comeback, it’s teal. Brides and grooms are rediscovering how versatile this color can be.

Another color combo predicted by Pantone for the color of the year is teal, with variations of sands, stones, and creams,” notes Jaclyn Watson, Planner at Jaclyn Watson Events. “Teal is the bold one here, but when paired with khaki and/or soft neutrals, it feels modern and elevated.”

You might teal it in velvet ribbons, tapered candles, bridesmaid dresses, or even statement glassware. It’s a shade that instantly adds depth, all while keeping things fresh.

Greens

Green has long been a wedding favourite, but in 2026, it’s becoming more than just an accent. Couples are embracing everything from dusty sage to lush olive, using these tones to create celebrations that feel effortlessly stylish.

McKenzi Taylor, Founder/Owner of Cactus Collective Weddings, confirms, “I saw a lot of greens in 2025, and I don’t think that trend is going anywhere. If anything, the greens might move a little darker, but I think green will still be popular. Dark greens are seen almost everywhere in nature, and I think 2026 will be a strong year for nature.”

What’s especially appealing is how calming and timeless green can feel. Whether it’s woven through your florals or included in subtle stationery details, it offers a sense of harmony that never goes out of fashion.

Using an anchor colour

One design shift we’re seeing everywhere is the rise of the “anchor colour”—a single hue that acts as the backbone of your palette. Instead of juggling four or five shades with equal weight, couples are choosing one standout color and allowing everything else to orbit around it.

“Pick one anchor color and repeat it a few smart places instead of sprinkling ten shades everywhere,” suggests Craig Peterman, Photographer & Videographer at Craig Peterman Photography & Videography. “Start with textiles because they do the heavy lifting: napkins, runners, or chair ties. Back it up with florals and candlelight at eye level so the color shows in photos, then add a small hit in paper goods or glassware.”

Anchor colors also help guide decision-making when you’re feeling overwhelmed by choices. Once you’ve chosen your core hue, everything from your flowers to your signage becomes much simpler to coordinate.

Choose what you love

Remember: trends are there to inspire, not dictate. One of the biggest themes for 2026 weddings is personal expression, meaning couples are letting go of “shoulds” and embracing colors that feel genuinely meaningful to them.

Amos Gott, Chief Event Architect at AmosEvents, says, “While color trends help keep creativity building over time, there’s nothing wrong with stepping outside them. Some of the most memorable weddings come from unexpected color combinations that later inspire new trends altogether. The goal is not to chase what’s popular, but to choose what feels like you. Color is emotional and should reflect the couple, the setting, and the story they want to tell.

When you choose colors you love, you create a celebration that feels unmistakably yours. So while the trends can offer plenty of gorgeous ideas, the most beautiful palette will always be the one that feels right for you!
