Well everyone, I hope you are all well and happy and if you are in the UK you are surviving the current heat wave! Boy it’s hot!! I hope you have managed to enjoy some of the sunshine, we managed to get out in it at the weekend which was lovely, and hopefully this weekend the sunshine will stich around as i am off to a music festival for the day. Today’s wedding took place last August in Essex and it was another lovely sunny day. Kathryn and Will took advantage of the good weather and held their ceremony outside, they then carried on their celebrations with good food and a full on party, including a saxophone player, a singer and a DJ! They partied all night long and Nathalie Delente Photography was there to capture the day for us.
Kathryn and William were married on 29th August 2024 at Baddow Park House in Chelmsford Essex. We had 85 guests. ‘We got engaged 26th SEP 2023 – married 29 Aug 2024 so not long! We had planned to marry in May 25 but K’s mum is terminally ill so we brought the wedding forward so she would be in better health. Organised it all in 9-10 months.’
How they met
Introduced as friends during COVID in 2020 – lots of lockdown dates with curfew of 10pm – they got set up – Will dropped her a text, they went out and the rest is history ! 5 years this OCT – now married and with a baby on the way
The Proposal
In America – he had the ring for 6 months prior – the diamond from her ring is her mums diamond from her engagement ring – was going to do the Grand Canyon but changed his mind – they were in LA and there was a problem with the accommodation so they had to move – found a really stunning penthouse – with amazing views of West Hollywood – sitting on balcony with beautiful sunshine and he asked the question.
How did you allocate the budget
Set a rough budget – worked out what they could save – bit of help with friends and family but they went about 15K over their budget ! – but she doesn’t regret any of the money spent. with hind site the money was irrelevant as they simply loved their day so much.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Splurge – the venue – food and drink – free bar all night long
Saved on -was careful when buying things – bridesmaid dresses bought when they were on offer
– Etsy ideas but then made things herself – candle sticks / candles / vases from wholesale site – she bought these herself – she then gifted the vases to guests the next day (with flowers in ) Saved on stationary as her best friend designed and they paid for the printing cost. Wedding planning – Kathryn planned it down to every fine detail ! – Multiple spreadsheets.
She highly recommends getting married on a Thursday – every one can have Fri off then you have
a nice long weekend to recover :) Spreadsheet was the ‘bible of information’ She is a PA in her job – so actually this was just like planning one of her events.
Food
Because it was late summer they opted for sharing plates rather than large, traditional meals like beef wellington. They had meat boards – chicken and steak and sides of caesar salad . roasted veg, and it catered to all veggie and gluten free. They loved that style and very happy with it.
Cake
Made by the neighbour – top tier – blueberry jam victoria sponge – bottom tier – lemon cake – flowers on the top that matched with the florist flowers.
Stationary
Designed and created by her best friend – Ellie, she was bridesmaid – she’s a graphic designer.
Honey Moon
Mauritius in Jan 2025 – where they ended up getting pregnant – left on 5th Jan which was lovely to escape the dreary winter blues of Jan in UK.
Special moments
Will and Kathryn exchanged their own personal vows. – very special and they have the books – the sentiment – lots of people crying. She’s glad that she was brave enough to do that and not just read off the standard script they provide – which sometimes feels a bit emotionless.
Highlights
The singer during cocktail hour – the first dance which took place outside in the sun as a surprise to everyone. the meal with everyone dancing on their chairs – so much fun!! The speeches were so funny and lively. Will is usually so shy but he was absolutely loving the limelight as he gave his speech!
The saxophonist again at 10pm – to keep things lively.
Advice for other couples
Advice – spend money on the entertainment – they had 2 saxophonists – one during the day and one at 10pm. they had a singer and a DJ. All in all – the musicians were a reasonable price but they brought so much value to the day and kept people going – avoiding any lulls in the day.
