Giuseppe and Theresa’s Romantic Sicilian Woodland Wedding by Sicilian Wedding Day

Happy Friday everyone, I hope you are well and happy. It’s been a long old week here on the blog, which makes me even more excited for the weekend. I am off to London tomorrow with my good friend, we are off to watch Wicked! Then out for dinner and drinks before we head home, I can’t wait!! For today though I have this quite stunning Sicilian wedding to share with you. Giuseppe and Theresa were married on 17 September 2023 at Borgo Musolino Country Estate and WOW what a venue! The location is absolutely breath-taking, tucked away on a hill top surrounded by woodland this wedding venue is quite something! The couple filled their day with pure romance from the abundance of beautiful flowers to the opulent  decoration, pure wedding magic! Emma from Sicilian Wedding Day the planner behind it all tells us more about this truly magical day.

The beauty of Sicily lies in the diversity of its landscape and Giuseppe and Theresa’s romantic September woodland wedding demonstrates one of the many sides to the versatile Mediterranean island.

Sicilian-born Giuseppe met Theresa whilst the two were working together and a friend played cupid inviting them both for dinner. There was an instant connection, and when Giuseppe eventually asked Theresa to marry him on her birthday with a romantic beach proposal in Sicily, they decided that for their special day they wanted to come back to celebrate in Giuseppe’s home town of Messina.

Wedding dress shopping for Theresa wasn’t the simplest of processes. As the two of them worked off shore she only had one day alone in London to find the right one, not an easy task! Although she had already imagined the dress she would choose, her final choice was completely different. Theresa went for a stunning sequined lace backless dress which she found in Angelica Bridal in Camden Town which was in fact the complete opposite of the more classic style she had in mind. Her veil was handmade, long delicate and lace trimmed which beautifully complemented her dress.

For Giuseppe, the couple originally started looking for a cream suit which was a bit of a challenge to find in Sicily. Eventually they opted for a beautiful classic black suit with Italian touches and style to it. It was tailored perfectly with a cream waistcoat with silk detailing. One special touch that the couple decided on were Giuseppe’s emerald cuff links which perfectly matched Theresa’s earrings and ring that he had given to her for the occasion.
Theresa’s two closest friends were her bridesmaids and they also had the honour of giving her away.

For the venue Giuseppe and Theresa’s brief to their wedding planners Sicilian Wedding Day was a woodland setting with a boho feel. Theresa explains why Borgo Musolino Country Resort nestled in the hills of Messina was the exact setting they were looking for.

“So with our work we are away for most of the year and so we had a very small window to find the venue we would love. But with Sicilian Wedding Day, they gave such beautiful options to choose from. Each location was unique and beautiful in its own right. But when we saw Borgo Musolino, we just fell in love. The most perfect, beautiful venue. It felt almost magical, tucked away in the mountains, hidden from the world. The nature, the view and the architecture. Even the staff, the food and the accomodation was stunning.”

Once they had settled on the venue the organisation of everything else began as the couple liased with their planners from a distance on every aspect of their special day.

For their humanist wedding immersed in the Borgo’s woodland they chose floral decorations which complemented the rustic location. Their ceremony space was brought to life by a wonderful focal point, a circle of pampas grass and greenery in front of which they exchanged their vows to each other. Their intimate ceremony was written and delivered by their celebrant Richard Brown and incorporated into the ceremony were two special elements that of ring warming, which saw all the participation of all the guests in blessing the couple’s wedding bands, and the ribbon rite, where a selection of coloured ribbons were placed over the couple’s joined hands as a symbol of the new union between the two.

The reception them moved to the Borgo’s stunning terrace which provided guests with a breathtaking sunset view of the Aeolian islands. To maintain a natural harmony with the Borgo and its surroundings Theresa chose florals which delicately combined a selection of greenery with predominantly white and nude fresh flowers complemented by dried blooms. The relaxed rustic feel continued for the imperial table decorations, with a mix of coloured vases, florals and candles. Vintage overhead lighting intertwined with single hanging wired florals created a truly romantic and magical ambiance for the main seated dinner.

Thoughtful final touches on the day by Theresa and Giuseppe included delicate velvet bags of almonds used as personalised place settings together with miniature bottles of Sicilian limoncello to thank their guests for their participation in celebrating the couple’s special day.
