Stephanie and Michael’s ‘Boho Lux’ Super Glam Weekend Wedding in Mexico by Andrea Camarena

Today I am delighted to bring you the most stunning destination wedding, all the way from Mexico. The great thing about a destination wedding is they generally last longer than just  day. All your friends and family have travelled for miles, they might be tagging on a holiday onto your wedding celebrations, which is why destination weddings tend to be a lot more relaxed, laid back and can go on for a number of days. This is certainly true for today’s wedding. Stephanie and Michael were married on 11th November 2023 in San Miguel but their wedding celebrations lasted the whole weekend. From a rather unique ‘wedding parade’ the Friday before the wedding to the actual wedding it self and then the day after for more couples photos, this is the wedding that keeps on giving. Big shout outs to planners  Penzi Weddings and photographer Andrea Camarena.

The couple tell us more about their wedding

For our ceremony, we knew we wanted flowers and candles to compliment the Parroquia San Miguel Arcángel. We chose to have white and very light blush flowers. We liked the more organic, sort of wild look for our arrangements. We had family members read the liturgy. We had a string quartet for our music. I play piano and really love classical music. So we mixed classical with some more modern pieces. I walked down to Golden Hour by JVKE. And we walked out to a recomposed version of Vivaldi, Four Seasons: Spring 1 by Max Richter. Michael and I love older music so our entrance song to the reception had to be Be My Baby by The Ronettes. Our first dance song was Southern Sun by Boy & Bear, one of our absolute favourites. I dance with my dad to De Niña a Mujer by Julio Iglesias, which is a very sweet song about a daughter growing up. Michael danced with his mom to Carrying Your Love With Me by George Strait, which brought on a lot of tears! Our exit song was, Baby I’m Yours by Cass Elliot.

For our reception, we wanted the same look to carry into the evening, but with colour. Our reception venue was the Instituto Allende, which was built in 1736. We wanted the flowers and decor to compliment the venue. We had flower arrangements hanging from the tent over the dance floor. And flowers crawling up the beautiful arches, which were one of my favorite accents. Our main decor was our lighting. We had beautiful star lanterns hanging from the tent. We also had a seating chart board with tequila glasses and donkey figurines as our wedding favors. All of our wedding stationery was designed by me. From our invitations to our wedding programs to the place cards and table numbers.

Our wedding planning team, Penzi Weddings, does their own catering, which is really helpful when you’re planning a destination wedding. The food exceeded all of our expectations. They have a really unique way of combining traditional Mexican dishes with a fine dining flair. We had different tapas and margaritas for cocktail hour. We definitely didn’t want our guests to leave the wedding hungry, so we had a four-course dinner to follow. Towards the end of the night, we had fresh hot churros and tacos!

We did a lot of walking during our wedding weekend. So some of our favourite moments were when we had our traditional callejoneada (wedding parade) the Friday before our wedding, as a way to kickstart our weekend festivities. And after our ceremony on Saturday, Michael and I walked the streets of San Miguel for our couple portraits, which was challenging with my dress but still very special and sort of funny! Another core memory was when we kicked off the party with our champagne tower and fireworks show! We played You’ve Got the Love by Florence + the Machine. We also had two entertainers on stilts come into the dance floor to really get people excited to dance! They were so great and surprisingly danced for a long time!
