Wedding Favours – Make Them Unique and Meaningful

Wedding favours are a way for couples to say “thank-you” to their guests for attending their wedding. Of course, they are not required, but they are a little thoughtful “extra” that adds to the specialness of the day.
Here are a few thoughts about wedding favours and some examples that should get your own “creative juices” flowing as you consider what will be meaningful, fun, and/or even useful.

What to Consider When Planning for a Wedding Favour

Budget

This is the primary consideration. Before you can even think of options, you’ll have to set a budget figure. Obviously, your budget will depend upon:

  • Total amount you have to spend
  • The size of your guest list

If money is no object, then these things will not really matter. But if it is, obviously, the larger the guest list, the smaller you have to spend on each favour.

Theme

  • If your wedding has a theme, then favours should reflect that theme. Here are a couple of examples:
  • Harry Potter – A small wand with the couple’s name and wedding date imprinted on it.
  • Star Wars – Small imprinted lightsaber
  • Halloween – Masks imprinted with name and date that guests can wear during the reception

Personal Interests

These are popular favours that reflect the interests or hobbies of the couple.

  • Sports Fans – can or bottle coolers for tailgating
  • Water sports – imprinted beach towels
  • Games – Decks of cards in a personalized box
  • Cooking – Set of heart-shaped measuring spoons with couple’s name engraved

General Categories of Wedding Favours

There are some categories of favours that can reflect simple thoughtfulness, a specific interest, practicality, and such. Here are a few of those categories with some examples that might get your thought processes in gear. They range from inexpensive to higher end prices to fit all budgets. The following are just a few ideas. You can even do some further research on this app to find ideas from couples who are planning their weddings or who have already had their big day and have some suggestions.

Food and Drink

This category can include both consumable and non-consumable sub-categories.

  • Sets of Coasters: These can range from reasonably priced glass to pricey sterling silver, with the couple’s name and wedding date engraved
  • Engraved Shot Glasses: This is a very reasonably priced gift, although higher-end ones (e.g., sterling) are an option too.
  • Engraved Champagne Flutes: Again, a wide price range of options
  • Wine Glass Charms With Each Guest’s Name: While you might think these are too pricey, do some research. You may find some on sites like Etsy that are quite reasonably priced.
  • Mini Champagne Bottles: Along with small champagne flutes, these can be used to toast the bride and groom at the reception.
  • Chocolate covered Cherries or Strawberries in a small imprinted gift box
  • Candy Bars with Imprinted wrappers
  • Lollipops – Attach small tags with the couple’s names and date. These are the least expensive gifts of all for those on a truly tight budget.
  • Small Jars of Homemade Honey or Apple Butter with imprinted labels

Practical/Useful

  • Imprinted Salt and Pepper Shakers – these can even be heart-shaped or in the form of lovebirds
  • Soaps in Imprinted Boxes
  • Mugs, Cups, Beer Steins
  • Stainless Steel Straws
  • Hand Sanitizers or Small Wipes in Imprinted bottles/boxes

Fun

  • Paper Airplanes: There are those made of a heavier card stock, and the couple’s name and date can be imprinted on the side
  • Hangover Kit: If the liquor is flowing, have a small burlap drawstring bag with some common items for a hangover – aspirin, vitamin C gummies, small water with electrolyte supplement packet, mints or gum, cheap sunglasses, eye drops, and even disposable barf bags.
  • Disposable Cameras: Guests can take their own pictures and have them developed – old-school, of course, but still fun
  • Lottery Tickets – Gift Wrapped with imprinted name and date

Eco/Sustainable

For those who are in tune with nature and sustainability, here are a few suggestions.

  • Packets of wildflower seeds – bees need them
  • Bird Seed Packets, Hummingbird Feeders, or Bird Houses
  • Small Perennial plants (succulents are great) in small tin buckets
  • Reusable Water Bottles/Bamboo Straws
  • Beeswax Lip Balm
  • Tiny Tree Planting
