Faye and Jim’s Colourful ‘Cocktails and Croquet’ Festival Wedding in North Yorkshire by Fabio Photography

I do love a colourful wedding and today’s wedding is just that! Colourful, fun, DIY and full of festival vibes. Faye and Jim’s main wish is that their day was full of colour, so they filled every aspect of their day with every colour of the rainbow. They wanted a fun festival vibe and I’m sure you will agree that they absolutely nailed it. From the numerous croqueted elements to the fun pom poms, the signage, the stationery, the bunting, all made by this fun filled crafty couple. I just love the energy of Faye and Jim, I love their outlook to their wedding and I just love how much they love each other! Big thanks to Fabio Photography for bringing this wonderful wedding to us today.

A day that was totally about having fun and enjoyment, I wanted everyone cheering our big day and our one request from us was colour! We wanted everyone to have something colourful on for the day. We asked our friend to marry us and act as a celebrant (We did the legal stuff prior)

Faye and Jim were married on 9th September 2023 at Baby moon camp, Middlesborough. ‘We wanted something non traditional, something we could make our own and we wanted a festival vibe to our day – the main importance was that everyone looked colourful and had fun. This venue just allowed us to our own Faye & Jim Fest (That’s what we called it) We kept it small for the day – around 40 and then invited every one else for the evening making it 100. It took 18 months in total to plan.’

How they met
We met around 10 years ago through mutual friends

The proposal
It was in 2020 that jim proposed to me.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We made a lot of the decorations our self, and I mean all of them! Even the flowers on the table where croquet made by me, the blankets for the ceremony, anything over hanging in the tipi was croqueted too – it was 13 Months in the making!

How did you choose your photographer?
We really wanted someone that would understand the assignment and who more important would enjoy the day along side us! And Fabio was just the man for the job. When he came along in a bright purple polo shirt we knew he was on our level.

The dress
Wed2Be

The suit and bridesmaids
Moss Bro’s for the suit  and for the bridesmaids I told them just come as festively as they wished!

Theme or colour scheme
The colour scheme was “as many colours as possible “ and festival vibes!

Flowers
Home grown and all done by me, helichrysum, hyacinth, wild oat!

Decoration
Custom made croqueted everything! I made everything my self, 13 months in the making it was! My house was stacked with yarn in every room for months.

Food
Grazing boards and buffet style food with some pizzas

Wedding cake
Custom made by a relative! The heat nearly got the better of it and it almost melted. Being in a hot tippee all day we are amazed it lasted.

Entertainment
We entertained our selves mainly, but we had a few games out like Hook a duck, Pass the Pigs, Jenga & a photo booth. For music planed a well thought about Spotify playlist that worked well, and some outdoor firepits and marshmallows and plenty of drinks!

Personal touches

  • Blankets for the ceremony all crocheted
  • Backdrop for the ceremony all crocheted
  • “flowers” for the table… you guessed it.. Crocheted by me!
  • Wwe wanted everyone to take home a part of our wedding and invited everyone to take something home to keep.
  • We even perfected the perfect spotify dance playlist
  • We drew up all the signs our selves
  • All the gift boxes where made by us
  • The bunting all crafted by me
  • Any stationary and any bits all done by self
  • We even made our cocktail recipe!

Special moments
The weather, our wedding really relied on it being a lovely day as it was so outdoor driven and the nerves where kicking in closer to the time in fear of rain but then came the day…. and it was probably the hottest day of the summer and it was just a huge highlight for me as the relief just set in and all my worries banished.
But the special moments I couldn’t pin point one it was just incredible from start to finish I had so much fun!

What advice would you give other couples?
Enjoy the day & don’t worry about the smaller/finer details as you soon wont care on the day when you’re having so much fun.

Biggest surprise of the day?
How fast the day went by, all the months of planning and it felt like it was over in the blink of an eye but nothing beats the enjoyment of your own wedding and seeing it all come together.
