Happy Friday everyone, wow how on earth is it Friday already?? t’s been another crazy busy week here at Boho HQ, each week seems to just fly by, it will be Christmas before we know it! This weekend I am off to Cornwall to visit my mum, it’s her 80th Birthday on Monday, so I am gong down laden with presents, cakes, balloons and flowers to celebrate with her. Today though I have the most gorgeous wedding all the way from Thailand. We are hoping to visit Thailand next Christmas, so I am always interested to feature weddings from this gorgeous destination and this wedding is so special. I just love the over all feel of the day. the soft greens and whites, give out a calming vibe, the attention to detail is outstanding and the decoration is just stunning. Wedding Boutique Phuket did an excellent job as always of putting this beautiful wedding together.
Jen and Tom were married on 15th April 2023 at Como Point Yamu, Phuket, Thailand. ‘We have called Asia home for close to 12 years so we had always wanted to celebrate on this side of the world and have the opportunity to share a little piece of paradise with our family and friends. Phuket was the first place we visited from Singapore (where we lived), and we’ve spent a lot of time on the island for leisure, work, and family. Tom even completed an Ironman 70.3 here, so it’s a place that holds many meaningful memories. As soon as we visited COMO Point Yamu, we knew it was the place… and the rest is history. We had around 80 guests. We visited the venue in May 2022, as soon as the borders between Thailand and Singapore opened, and booked it for the following April. So, in total, we had just under a year, but the final pieces really came together in the last five/six months. We both lead pretty hectic work schedules, so we honestly couldn’t have done any of this without our incredible planners, Wedding Boutique Phuket. Let’s just say they were incredibly patient with us.’
How they met
We met at university in the UK and have been together since our final year (14 years in total now).
The proposal
Tom: Well, the proposal was supposed to be halfway up a mountain in the Dolomites in 2020, just when the world decided to put a pin in travel. Best laid plans and all that… Now with a ring burning a hole in my drawer and with Jen’s uncanny ability to sniff out surprises, I was, needless to say, a little stressed. Calling in a few favours, I hastily put together a new plan. A Singapore staycation at one of the city’s tallest towers, topped with a sunset helipad proposal. Even at the last minute, there was drama, though, with thunderstorms flashing around and threatening to derail the plans. We found our window, though, and it was the most wonderful moment (and quite a relief!).
How did you allocate your budget?
Our main priority was to ensure that people were well-fed and watered over the weekend and that everyone had a good time, especially considering the effort and distances travelled. We hosted a welcome party on Friday night, which was a great way to ease everyone into the weekend and allow people to get to know each other.
Where did you splurge, and where did you save?
The venue was a big one for us, as well as flowers and having the day captured with photos and video. A lot of our budget was allocated to alcohol throughout the weekend (knowing our audience). We opted not to do things like wedding favours on the table; instead, we chose practical gifts like fans for the ceremony (much needed).
How did you choose your photographer?
Finding the right photographer and videographer was hugely important to us. We both work in the media industry and wanted to invest in capturing cinematic memories. We really wanted to find someone who could build a story around our wedding. The recommendation for Giordano came from Ilaire and the team, and we were fortunate that he was already going to be in Phuket. For the videography and photography, our brief was to focus on capturing candid moments rather than too many staged ones—especially during the after-party!
The dress
Jen’s dress was the Bonita gown by Grace Loves Lace. Shoes were also Grace Loves Lace. For accessories, a custom designer diamond necklace by a local jewellery maker in Singapore and Jen’s late Grandma’s engagement ring
The suit and bridesmaids
Bridesmaids dresses were from a local boutique in the UK (Victoria Lou Bridal) Groom and groomsmen jackets were tailored in Singapore
Theme or colour scheme
Boho style with colours of sage green and white
Flowers
A mix of tropical and forest greenery, White orchids, ivory and white roses, white bleached ruscus, Olive branches, silver dollar eucalyptus, white delphinium, white lisianthus, gypsophila, some dried flowers and bunny tails.
Decoration
Boho style with vintage decors and Moroccan carpets. A lot of natural wood elements, rattan tables, boho lanterns, clay pots used for the seating chart. A vintage typewriter too!
Food
Considering we were in Thailand, there was no doubt that we had to go local.
Wedding cake
A boho-style, vanilla sponge
Entertainment
A saxophonist for our cocktail hour, followed by a DJ
Who supplied the stationery?
Wedding Boutique Phuket, our wedding planner agency.
Where a did you go on your honeymoon?
We went skiing in Meribel in the French Alps in December 2023 to revisit where we did our ski season together after we graduated.
Personal touches
We designed the wedding logo, website, and invites. We requested a coconut shack for our cocktail hour, which served spiked coconuts. We also sorted the pre-wedding party and the after-party on Monday (which also happened to be Jen’s birthday).
Special moments
Honestly, the whole day was incredible, and we have so many fond memories. The ceremony was absolutely stunning, and nothing beats being on the dance floor with everyone you love. The night ended with a pool party at one of the villas, which went well into the early hours of the morning and will forever be a highlight.
Advice for other couples
If you are planning to do a destination wedding, find yourselves a wedding planner who gets you and your vision (thanks again to the incredible team at Wedding Boutique Phuket. Don’t overthink the big things, at the end of the day, everyone in the room is there for you, and the day should centred around having a good day filled with love.
Biggest surprise
How relaxed we felt. Everyone talks about how stressful weddings can be (and yes, the planning certainly had its moments), but having such an incredible team (planners and venue) really helped everything run smoothly meaning us and our guests had the best day.
