Grace and Kyaw’s Wild Flower Woodland Wedding in Gloucestershire by Sasha Weddings

I do love an outdoor wedding, the simplicity of being outside and enjoying what nature has to offer and that is exactly what Grace and Kyaw did with their gorgeous woodland wedding that took place earlier this year. The wedding took place at Wildwood Bluebell in Gloucestershire and it was the perfect setting for Grace and Kyaw and their 40 guests. A laid back hand fasting ceremony within the woodlands followed by a tipi reception and a spot of glamping. The day was filled with a flower theme, from the wild flower decoration, to the bridesmaids outfits to the wedding cake. Big thanks to Sasha Weddings for capturing the day for us with her beautiful photography.

Full of friends and laughter. Surrounded by beautiful nature

Kyaw and Grace were married on 18th May 2024 at Heath Barn in Donnington, Moreton in Marsh in Gloucestershire. ‘We visited the venue and immediately fell in love. We both love nature and wanted somewhere with plenty of space so guests could separate and chill if they wanted and those with kids would have the option to go somewhere quiet if they needed.
The location is split into glamping/camping area with facilities, barn-house accommodation (for the bride, groom, and party), and two shepard style huts in the woods. A wooded area contained the ceremony location with benches and a hearth. A grassy field by the woods was used for a tipi tent for the wedding dinner, and evening events. We had 40 guests and it took two years to plan.’

How they met
We met the same way everyone meets these days, on the dating app, Bumble. We have been together for 5 years.

The proposal
We arranged the wedding venue and picked rings without even proposing. We were just always on the same page with where we wanted the relationship to go. But we decided to give our parents the chance to celebrate so we went to the bride’s home of Edinburgh and decided to climb her favourite hike in the Pentlands and proposed to each other at the peak of Pentlands hills.

How did you allocate your budget?
Lots of excel spreadsheets and careful monthly savings for two years. We were also renovating our house at the time so the money was tight.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on the venue and food, saved on everything else. We designed our own invitations, made DIY wedding favours, tote bags, etc.

How did you choose your photographer?
We saw Sasha’s portfolio and loved how she captured both the guests and the couple. She had beautiful candid shots and we really wanted good pictures of all our friends as it is not often you can get everyone you love in one place.

The dress
My jumpsuit was from Ted baker, shoes New Look, and earrings Oliver Bonas.

The suit and bridesmaids
A custom suit was ordered from Hockerty. Everyone was kind of my bridesmaid and I just asked them to wear anything floral that they owned.

Theme or colour scheme
Anything floral and casual – whatever the guests felt comfortable in and ready for ceilidh dancing!

Flowers
Mixed wildflowers by Posey Rose.

Decoration
Just flowers, not much decoration was needed as we were surrounded by nature.

Food
An amazing asian style on-table sharing buffet meal by Vegan 2 you. It was outrageously good.

Wedding cake
Cotswolds vegan baking company provided a delicious orange and cardamom cake.

Entertainment
A ceilidh band called the Ceilidh Tree. They provided a solo violinist for the ceremony section and the rest of the band turned up later to provide the ceilidh dancing after dinner and speeches. We hired our own portable speaker system from a website called Fat Llama to provide nostalgic bangers for late night music. For the late night music, we used the website Fiverr to hire a DJ to make a pre-mixed setlist with songs we wanted.

Who supplied the stationery?
We made our own invitations, and wedding favours, and gift bags.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?
We had already pre-arranged a holiday to Thailand with Kyaw’s mum to visit his family, so that was kind of the honeymoon.

Personal touches
We made wedding favours, gift bags, and table decorations. Most of the drinks were just bought by us in bulk in advance, taking advantage of Tesco Clubcard discounts! We also provided BBQ dinner for guests that arrived a day earlier to glamp/camp on-site and a cooked English breakfast for the guests after the wedding night.

Special moments
The speeches made us both laugh and cry. The Ceilidh was just excellent fun, and the late night dancing with those that managed to remain awake was a perfect memory.

Advice for other couples
There are a lot of ways to save money, you can rent equipment from Fat Llama and use Fiverr to hire a DJ to make a premixed DJ set (which is much cheaper than hiring a DJ). Suppliers will also be able to give you discounts if you ask.

Biggest surprise
I (the groom) didn’t expect to get so emotional walking down the aisle with my mother, seeing all my friends waiting for the ceremony.
