Casey and Devon’s Fuss Free DIY Back Garden Wedding by Amanda Photo Co

Happy Bonfire Night everyone! I hope you are well and happy and have had a great week. So it’s Bonfire night tonight, have you got anything planned? Any fireworks displays to go to? We are off to our local pub this evening who are putting on some fireworks, then tomorrow we are going to a big light and fire works show, and Sunday a massive bonfire and fireworks display. So hopefully if the weather is kind it should be a good weekend. I hope you have a good one whatever you are doing. I am finishing off the week with this super simple but super gorgeous back garden wedding from Amanda Photo Co. Casey and Devon wanted a romantic day but without a lot of the fuss of a traditional wedding, focusing on the one thing that really matters; Love! They held a touching and heart felt ceremony outside in Devon’s family home, which made the day even more special. What a beautiful dreamy day this lovely couple had!

It was a dreamy and casual day, filled with love and lots of laughs.

Casey and Devon were married on 9th November 2019 at Devon’s family home. ‘The home has been in Devon’s family for 2 generations.  His mother was raised there, and when Devon was a baby, his parents bought the home from his grandparents.  Many family members and friends have stayed there.  Family is incredibly important to both Casey and Devon’s parents and it seemed only natural to bring the two families together in a place with so much history. We had 150 guests and it took about 6 months to plan.’

How they met
We met on St. Patrick’s Day at a local bar, which neither of us would normally have gone to.  Casey wasn’t even going to go out that night!  After talking for a while, Casey’s friends were leaving so she said goodbye and walked out.  Outside, she realized he didn’t even ask for her number so she marched right back in and let him know!  He took her number, called her to make sure it wasn’t fake and asked for a date the next day.  We’ve been together about 4 years now.

The proposal
It was perfect.  Just us and our dogs, in our home, on a quiet Sunday morning.  We’re both very private and not at all romantic.  Any staged proposal would have felt inauthentic and unnatural to us!

How did you allocate your budget?
We knew we didn’t want to blow a ton of money on one day, so we DIY’d as much as we could.  We knew food and drink was most important so we spent the most on that.  The venue was free, so we were able to spend a little more on rentals.  Food, drink, rentals, personal florals, dress, hair & makeup, and invitations were all we spent money on.  Oh, and we paid for a bartender!

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on drinks and food.  Saved on florals by cutting our own eucalyptus and setting as garland and an aisle runner. Our florist provided arch florals, bouquets and filled our own bud vases for the tables. Our large family pitched in to help set everything up. The DJ was a friend of Devon’s father, and he donated his time so that was another huge savings.  Casey is a calligrapher/designer and made all the signage.

The dress
Casey’s dress was custom-made by a local designer.  After attending one of the fittings, Casey’s cousin made arrangements with the designer to make a baby blanket from the lace cuts from the dress. The blanket was given to Casey and Devon at their baby shower just under a year later.

The suit and bridesmaids?
We didn’t have a bridal party, we wanted everything to be super simple and uncomplicated…like us!

Theme or colour scheme
Casey loved the look of grey linens with white chairs.  She wanted an elevated backyard vibe, still laid back but with a touch of elegance.
