James and Louise’s Laid Back Bohemian East Yorkshire Wedding by M and G Photographic

Happy Monday everyone and how are you all? Did you have a good weekend? Mine was wonderful, I actually went out not once but twice! Friday night was spent with some mum friends on a Christmas night out. We had a great night enjoying lots of delicious food and cocktails. Saturday I went to the cinema with another friend to watch Last Christmas, which was super cheesy but full of Christmas cheer. The rest of the weekend was spent with my gorgeous family at a variety of Christmas fayres, ice skating and hunting for our Christmas tree. I am now well on my way to feeling super festive and can’t wait for the rest of the Christmas festivities. However, today I am taking you back to the summer with this beautiful bohemian wedding from M and G Photographic. James and Louise wanted a super laid back and relaxed wedding, low on formalities and heavy on bohemian charm and lots of fun. They spoilt their guests with an abundance of amazing food and the most beautiful decoration. Such a gorgeous day and the perfect way to start the week.

A relaxed celebration of love. With a true representation of what is important to us.

James and Louise were married on 24th August 2019 at Carlton St Mary’s church with the reception at Drewtons Manor Rooms in East Yorkshire. ‘I have always wanted a church wedding I just think they are so romantic and beautiful. We had 120 guests and it took 10 month to plan.’

How they met
We have been together about 8 years but have known each other longer. We got engaged in October last year. My mum was ill and it just made us both realise what is important and we thought – why are we waiting? So James asked me to marry him very casually on dog walk! We just wanted the wedding to be a day for everyone, completely laid back with no stress for anyone involved. That’s why we decided to plan everything so informally. We just wanted everyone to have fun!

How did you allocate your budget?
We knew what was important to us and that was everyone having fun and feeling relaxed therefore we allocated more of the budget for things such as entertainment.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Not a conscious decision to save money but more because we wanted a relaxed vibe but we didn’t have a sit down meal but a BBQ which did work out cheaper. Also my sisters company did the wedding decorations, attentionTWOdetail

How did you choose your photographer?
My sister had worked with Patrick previously and always spoke about how amazing his work was. It was really important to us that posing for photographs didn’t take over the day and we just wanted the whole thing to feel really natural. Just looking through MandG photographic wedding portfolio’s  it was clear that this is what we would get.

The dress
I only visited two dress shops, all I knew was I wanted something with a bohemian vibe. Other than that I had an open mind! Chloe Jane Bridal and my sister actually picked the Zavana dress out and I just loved it. I liked that it was so detailed but at the same time not over the top. Accessories mostly were vintage pieces and borrowed.

The suit and bridesmaids
The bridesmaids were all in different styles of dresses 3 were from freepeople and one was from whistles. I just went with the flow of what suited them and what they felt nice in and that’s why they all had different.

Theme or colour scheme
Bohemian vibe with natural earthy colours

Flowers
Wild flowers

Decoration
The manor rooms speaks for itself really so I did not want to overdo it. We had a rustic look for tables with just a linen runner with scattered random vases of flowers. Then dream catchers from attentionTWOdetail to finish off the venue and tie the theme together

Food
African Braii – it was amazing!

Wedding cake
Jill Fisher made the cake it was incredible and it was exactly what I had envisaged. Three Tiers chocolate, carrot and lemon.

Entertainment
Josh Benson, a magician, who is so talented. He just casually mingled amongst the guests whilst they were having canapes and drinks, doing magic tricks and being hilarious. We had a band from sussex callled The Sonics who blew everyone away and got the party started!

Personal touches
My sister made all of the decorations and set up the venue.

Special moments
My mum walking me down the aisle has to be the special moment. It was just such an incredible feeling having everyone you care about together, being care free and having fun.

Advice for other couples
The advise would be to relax and enjoy spending your day how you want to, not how you feel you should!

Biggest surprise
The biggest surprise for both of us was how quickly the day went. I know everyone says it but it really does go in a blur.
