Botanical meets Geometric ‘Modern Mohemia’ Wedding Inspiration

Today I want to inject some summer sunshine and warmth into your day with this super stylish styled shoot that has been sent into me by Sally Gallis from Events by Design. The shoot took place in June of this year at Architectural Plants, Pulborough in West Sussex. The team of suppliers wanted to create a Bohemian inspired shoot, but mix it up a bit by adding in a more modern twist. They used hard lines and geometrics against the softness of the botanical venue, mixing in the bright colours of the flowers and fringing of the stunning wedding dress. The results are this beautiful collection of images by Menzies Photography that play around with the idea of traditional Boho and show that you can still be Bohemian and have a modern edge.

A rich natural aesthetic, teaming a bohemian style with dramatic textures and shapes.

Sally from Events by Design tells us more about the shoot

We wanted to use a free-spirited bohemian vibe, but move this away from what is traditionally done; showing couples that they can have the boho style but that it can also be dramatic and playful.

The inspiration for the shoot came from the idea of using natural forms found in nature, juxtaposed with hard lines and geometric edges. We loved the idea of setting botanical fauna and fringing alongside each other and using light and dark to offset these shapes and textures. Therefore, we approached our venue, Archiplants because of its many beautiful settings and the visually interesting vignettes it could offer, such as The Shade House which gave Menzies Photography exciting film noir -style shapes and
shadows and the aisle which was framed by incredible natural botanical structures.

These natural elements gave us our backdrop and we teamed this with stylistic elements created by
Events by Design flowing fabrics and tassels, hanging metallic shapes, terrariums filled with tropical
plants and metallic candlesticks to soften the edges and create visual contrast. This was carried through the vision through the stunning detailing on the gown supplied by Shikoba Bride. The lace and exquisite fringing on the sleeves contributed to the contemporary bohemian vibe and complemented by the groom’s attire which gave it a Coachella feel.
Ladylissy floristry was able to heighten the tropical feel by creating a bouquet full of colour and
vibrancy whilst complementing the lush, dark greenery of the venue. This shot of colour was brought out further by the incredible stationery designed by Violet Paper studio who took the botanical theme and injected some Victorian-vintage-inspired elements through the use of tropical birds, fruit and amazing vintage-styled stamps. We loved how the use of the dark background made the tropical elements dramatically pop out.
Our beautiful bride’s make-up and hair was styled by Lauren Irwinh who created a soft, yet
contemporary look. The headpieces custom made by the Lucky Sixpence added a further layer of shape and texture – perfectly offsetting the natural shapes and tying together the contemporary elements in the styling.

The main aim of creating a shoot like this was to play around with what is expected when couples think
of the boho style. Rather than creating a shoot which features the usual lace dresses and hippy vibe, we wanted to showcase a different aesthetic and get back to the arty, unique and alternative options that bohemia stands for. By focusing on the beauty of natural forms and contrasting this with geometric
shapes and shadows has hopefully shown that couples can be experimental with this style and not to be afraid of choosing venues and elements which create a different kind of experience for them and guests.
