Daisy and Charlie’s Sun Drenched Flower Filled Summer Devon Wedding by Olivia Moon Photography

Hello Monday and how are you all? Did you have a good weekend? I hope the sun shone for you and you managed to do something fun and relaxing. My weekend was lovely, a weekend spent with good friends, and my two boys, enjoying the delights that Sheffield has to offer. A Mini festival on Saturday, followed by a summer fete on Sunday, all enjoying the lovely weather. Today I am taking you back to last summer, when it was Hot, Hot, Hot! You can just feel the summer sun through these photos, thanks to Olivia Moon’s fab photography skills. Daisy and Charlie held their reception in Daisy’s parents garden, which made this chilled out day even more relaxed. They filled it with lots of flowers, garden games and a whole lot of summer fun, lets hope we see lots of days like this over the next couple of months.

It was an incredible experience being surrounded by all the people we both love, partying the night away to celebrate our marriage. The setting was idyllic and the weather was perfect!

Daisy and Charlie were married on 30th June 2018, the ceremony was held at at RHS Rosemoor Garden, with the reception in a marquee at Daisy’s parents house in Devon. ‘I grew up in Devon and have always imagined getting married in my parents garden, when that wasn’t possible Rosemoor was
the perfect alternative – we got married in the Winter Garden – luckily offering some shade during the 2018 Heat Wave. Having the Reception at my parent’s house meant we had so much freedom to make the wedding what we wanted it to be. We had 130 guests and it took 18 Months to plan.’

How they met
We met at university in Bristol, where we were initially friends, we have since been together for 8 and a half years (married for almost one).

The proposal
We were travelling in New Zealand, and I was totally shocked!

How did you allocate your budget?
We tried to do as much as we could ourselves, spending the bulk of the money on the marquee and entertainment.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We saved on the flowers – I made the bouquets, my maid of honour made the buttonholes and some family friends did all the other incredible arrangements – most of the flowers were grown by my mum or friends.

How did you choose your photographer?
I loved the photos Olivia did for Charlie’s brother’s wedding so it was an easy choice.

The dress
My dress was by French designer Rime Arodaky. I borrowed a necklace from my mum and wore blue heels (the most comfortable but high ones I could find!).

The suit and bridesmaids?
The suits were Ted Baker and the bridesmaids wore navy maxi dresses.

Theme or colour scheme
No particular theme except lots of flowers!

Flowers
A mix of what we could grow at that time of year including roses, alstroemeria, ferns, antirrhinums, alchemilla and daisies.

Decoration
Lots and lots of flowers.

Food
We had a mediterranean spread plus wood-fired pizzas by Bristol-based ‘Pizzarova’.

Wedding cake
Charlie’s sister-in-law made an amazing multi-layered cake decorated with fresh flowers including the rose ‘Shropshire Lad’ – as Shropshire is where Charlie grew up. It had a nod to the royal wedding that year with layers including lemon and elderflower. The icing was a white chocolate buttercream.

Entertainment
We’re lucky enough to have a very talented good friend who played guitar during the reception at Rosemoor. We then had a string quartet in the garden (who did an eclectic mix of classical and modern, including our favourite film scores) and the party really got going later with an incredible band called the Madhatter’s Tea Party who did lots of wedding classics but with all the energy and fun you could hope for. The dance floor was full from the first to the last song.

Who supplied the stationery?
The invites etc. were collaborative – but beautifully brought together by some friends who are graphic designers.

Personal touches
We all did our own make-up and my friend, who’s a hairdresser, did mine and the bridesmaids hair (and anyone else she could fit in!)

Special moments
Seeing how nervous and excited my dad was in the morning. Seeing just how much the kids at the wedding enjoyed it was incredibly special. The speeches blew me away too – lots of laughs and tears. The dance off was a highlight – and knowing that my mum was still dancing at 5am with some of our friends!

Advice for other couples
As most people will say, try your best to take it all in and enjoy every moment as it’s all over so soon.

Biggest surprise
Just how much people enjoy an open bar!
