Anna and Jack’s Relaxed Rustic Tythe Barn Wedding by Heart Full of Tea

Happy Monday everyone and how are you all? I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. After a few days away in Dubrovnik I am now back refreshed and revived. I had a wonderful time, so much to see and do, what a wonderful place Croatia is! This week in our household is Dexter’s birthday week! It’s his birthday on Wednesday and his party on Saturday so I am busy getting everything prepared for him! I can’t wait!! As for today, we are celebrating the wedding of Anna and Jack, courtesy of Emma from Heart Full of Tea. It’s a fun filled day, filled with many smiles and much laughter. They chose a relaxed day close to where Jack was brought up and kept the day laid back with loose flowers, hessian and rustic detailing, as well as succulent place names. Happy Monday everyone, have a good one!

If it was just the two of us, it would have still been the most goose-bump filled, special day ever, full of so much love and laughter, but the fact that we got to share that with our nearest and dearest made the whole day even more amazing! We could never have expected a more perfect day, truly the best day of our lives!

Anna and Jack were married on 18th August 2018 at St Andrews Church, Mells followed by a stroll through The Walled Garden at Mells (drinks, canapés and best sausage rolls in the UK) Then reception at Mells Tythe Barn near Bath. ‘It was all just a few minutes walk from each other. Jack organised a football match in the morning at Babbington House and had our friends and family played a friendly team Jack vs team Anna game while I was having a more relaxing  morning, getting ready at The Talbot inn. Jack is from Downhead, a village 5 mins away from Mells. I’ve always loved going to Somerset and to Mells for The Walled Garden and The Talbot. When Jack and I found out we could get married at St Andrews church, we were delighted! At the other end of the cobbled street from the beautiful church is a small opening into The Walled Garden which leads onto the Tythe Barn which just seemed so perfect! We had 94 adults and 16 CHILDREN! We had a kids area of bean bags, hoola hoops and party bags. The bean bags were great for the evening when some of the kids needed a place to relax and even sleep. It took about 10 months to plan.’

How they met
We met in the final year at uni through mutual friends. Jack was forcing our friend to ‘down a dirty pint’ and I was far from impressed, thinking who is this Jack-the-lad?! Later, I got passed my judgmental first impression and saw how gorgeous he is and how beautiful and warm his soul is! We met in 2012, engaged after 5 years, married at 6 and we are now expecting our first child this year, 7 years after first meeting. (I’m an emotional wreck writing this, haha!)

The proposal
We were on holiday with Jack’s family in Salcombe and the two of us went for a gorgeous cliff walk and I was absolutely none the wiser! Even when Jack suggested that we leave our stuff and shoes and walk right on the edge, I naively just followed him! He proposed with his great grandmother’s ring and there was a photographer hidden in the bushes to capture the moment! Haha! We shared a glass of our favourite wine then headed back across the estuary where his family were waiting in The Ferry Inn with bubbles and bunting – Thank goodness it was a yes!

How did you allocate your budget?
We definitely ended up spending more than what we planned! Also, Jack had taken baked beans on toast to new heights…

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Food, DJ with saxophonist, flowers, amazing photographer with second shooter and groom’s suit were the most expensive. We saved on anything we could with a lot of items being borrowed from family and friends, like cutlery, tablecloths, groom’s transport in a swanky BMW, bridal party walked as we didn’t need transport! Oh and I got a bargain on my wedding shoes (and dress) as knew they wouldn’t be seen very much in my dress! We made our succulent favours and doubled them up as table places and our lovely friends and family helped set up all our decorations the day before.

How did you choose your photographer?
As soon as we saw Emma’s photos and how she captures the moment so naturally without any awkwardness we wanted her to do our wedding! And wow she captured it amazingly! We are so pleased with all our photos and trusted Emma implicitly. She ended up being a great wedding planner through her experience and helped co-ordinate the day fluidly.

The dress
Dress is actually in 3 pieces! I never knew I would have such a big dress but I fell in love with the tulle dresses like the Blush by Hayley Paige range, but I didn’t want to spend so much money on a dress I will wear once. So I found the most beautiful tulle skirt from Wed2Be for £300!!!! The price tag made me love it even more! Then I went to the amazing Emma Tindley in East Grinstead who found the perfect bustier and stunning lace top that matched the colour perfectly. She then provided all alterations and put it all together so that it looked like one complete dress. I loved my dress and it felt extra special for being unique and I was so pleased that it didn’t cost too much! In the evening I was able to remove the lace top and add a simple necklace to create a second evening look. My shoes were £30 from  ASOS and the next day, they look like they had a cracking night! I wore my mum’s diamond earrings and a simple necklace/ bracelet from Accessorize.

The suit and bridesmaids
Jack has always wanted a tailor-made suit and looked sensational in a three-piece suit by The Cad & The Dandy, Saville Row. He looked incredible! My beautiful bridesmaids wore two different colours of the same dress from ASOS. I got them on a 20% off day and managed to buy them before I’d even asked the girls to be bridesmaids! Haha. Fortunately they liked them, the two colours was not originally planned but I couldn’t get the sizes I needed in the same colour and thought the mismatched colours looked fab! Flower girls’ dresses were from Next.

Theme or colour scheme
Not particularly, wild, country, whatever people were comfortable in!

Flowers
We actually ended up having two florists (because of a mix up, not because if diva preferences) and our flowers were beautiful! Again we didn’t really have a colour scheme or anything and just asked for wild country style flowers and wow they were gorgeous! White Row Florist did our lovely wedding bouquets, the boutonnieres and the stunning flower piece for my hair. Our beautiful flowers in the church were done by Nicky Llewellyn Flowers. Our amazing friends managed to bring the flowers from the church to the reception area so we were surrounded by gorgeous flowers everywhere. Not to forget being in the Walled Flower Garden also, it was heaven for me, probably not for hay fever sufferers!

Decoration
South West Marquees’ put up some lovely lighting in and around the marquee as well as fairy lights in the barn. We spent the day before decorating the marquee with bunting and ivy. Jack’s aunty also provided flowers for the table from her Walled Garden in Treberfydd. The flowers combined with succulent place cards/favours and a simple hessian roll over white table clothes made the the tables look lovely without having centrepieces.

Food
Pizza and sides from Field to Fire Catering for mains. Eaton Mess and Yeo Valley ice cream for dessert. Then we had sweet and savoury crepes from La Bonne Crêpe and cocktails from Event Bars South West, pop-up bar.

Wedding cake
Tasty and gorgeous with the most beautiful flowers, made by a friend’s mum from Warren Wood Catering in West Sussex. Anna even made cupcakes that said ‘Crazy in Love’ as she knows we’re a big fan!

Entertainment
Brilliant DJ Nigel from Stylish Entertainment along with a fab saxophonist! They set the mood amazingly.

Who supplied the stationery?
The lovely Dan and Becks from Jot Paper Co printed our invitations. The J&A design was also printed on our Order of Service.

Personal touches
We had arrow chalkboards with J&A written on it surrounded by wicker hearts placed at various points along the short journey. The personalised succulents and the humorously incorrect table planner that ended up having arrows drawn all over it, haha! We also had childhood photos by the ladies/gents and had a basket of goodies in the ladies, like hairspray, deodorant and hand cream. Our friends and family all mucked in with decorating, putting up tables and helping with all those final touches! My best friend gave me a locket with my mum’s photo in to put on my bouquet as my mum had passed away. We also had her wedding photo by our cake as well as Jack’s late Uncle Bob’s hat, that we put a boutonnière on. It was a good way of including them in our wedding day as they were two big parties who were so very missed.

Special moments
All the elements that ‘went wrong’ or that didn’t quite go to plan! They made it personal, memorable and made it more like us! The speeches were a massive highlight, they were all so brilliant, meaningful and hilarious! I was even brave enough to do a speech which I’m so glad of. Marrying Jack was just the most amazing experience, I was so nervous walking down the aisle and as soon as I saw him I instantly relaxed and enjoyed every moment.

Advice for other couples
Relax, be open minded and trust in the professionals, they’re not going to do a bad job! You’re going to have the most amazing day of your life, regardless of power cuts and no wine glasses!

Biggest surprise
How amazing it really was, everyone says it will be the best day of your life but I didn’t really know what that meant. It was so special and it all came together so beautifully! We are so glad we have these wonderful photos to remember it by.
