Hannah and Pip’s Sunny Summer Handmade Tipi Wedding by Poppy K Photography

Today we are sharing a full of sunshine summer wedding to match the amazing weather we are currently having in the UK. Hannah and Pip chose a tipi wedding, so they could work with a blank canvas and really put their own mark on their day. With craft evenings every Tuesday it was a real family affair getting all the DIY projects finished. The results are this super cute handmade tipi wedding, filled with personal touches. Poppy K Photography has done the honours with the images.

Everything we had wished for that came true for us. We are now enjoying our life as husband and wife.

Hannah and Pip were married on the 6th August 2016 in a ceremony at St. Gregory’s Church,  Morville, followed by a tipi reception at Claverley Farm Field in Shropshire. ‘The church was beautiful, old and full of history. We liked that they had no more than a couple of weddings a year there and felt that it was really quaint and intimate.  We chose the field so that we had a blank canvas that we could make our own with our 3 large Tipi’s. We also knew our band could be as loud as it wanted and we could party all night as there was not a neighbour for miles. It also meant that we and our guests could camp their on the night in our own mini Tipi which was great fun! We had 100 guests in the day time and a further 70+ on the evening. We planned the wedding over about 10 months after getting engaged in Italy the previous August. Everything that appeared at the wedding was made or created by us in that time!’

How they met
We met as dance partners 7 years ago and have been inseparable ever since!

The Proposal
Pip surprised me by taking me out for a birthday meal and telling me we were off to Sorrento, Italy the following week! We had 5 stunning days in a private apartment overlooking the bay of Naples, Sorrento and Mount Vesuvius. On the last day Pip planned to take me to the Island of Capri. We walked the Island all day and then finally in the gardens of the Villa San Michele whilst looking high over the island and coastline Pip got down on one knee and asked the question!

How did you allocate your budget?
There was no budget as we just wanted to have a good time and celebrate our marriage! We wouldn’t change a thing and felt everything was worth it..

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Pip defiantly splurged on the suits! He has expensive taste! We treated ourselves to hiring a Morgan for the weekend too as our wedding car! To save we made whatever we could ourselves using materials we already had as well as raiding charity shops! On the wedding night we camped in our own honeymoon Tipi and our guests brought their own tents too!

The photographer?
We met Claire from ‘Poppy K Photography‘ and instantly knew we wanted her to spend our day with us! It was like having another friend there. She just got our style and personality and she captured our day perfectly. We can’t stop looking at the pictures and feel as though we made a true friend.

The Dress
The dress was by Allure Brides. I wanted to take a dress and make it my own so after having it all modified the finishing touches came from Pip’s mum who made the flowers and veil that I wore in my hair and the huge bow on the back of my dress actually came off my Mum’s wedding dress. My Mum and Dads initials were sewn into the bow so we had mine and Pips added to it too. My shoes were a surprise from Pip on the morning of the wedding! By Jimmy Choo, called BOHO PINK.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
The suits were a concoction of what Pip wanted and envisioned for the day!. The jackets were custom made for the men. Then trousers, bow ties, funky socks and new clean pants were a must!! The shoes where by Grenson (English Brogue) I needed a pair that stood out to match Hannah’s!.
The men were actually much more difficult to meet the needs of than the women!
Our bridesmaids wore dresses by ChiChi London that complimented the style of my dress and the colour of the men. They looked beautiful! Our mini flower girls looked gorgeous where all in white. All the girl’s hair pieces were made by us using a collection of flowers.

Theme or Colour Scheme
There was no particular theme or colour we just wanted something that reflected us and our own individual style. The colour of the men matched perfectly to what the bridesmaids wore which was pure coincidence as we hadn’t seen what each other had picked!

Flowers
Our flowers ranged from Real to home-made craft paper flowers, we held craft nights with both families every Tuesday until wedding week. We wanted a wild look with the flowers which is why Hannah and the bridesmaids decided to carry baskets of flowers as though they had just been picked from fields. We were lucky enough to get all the flowers wholesale which meant a very busy day before for Pip’s mum and our friend Joy who were in charge of flower arranging. We ended up with hundreds of arrangements made from thousands of wild flowers, none of which went to waste!

Decoration
We wanted to fill our Tipi with lots of very personal decorations that we had made our selves using mainly of natural materials to give it that boho feel. Table centres, flowers, place settings, seating plan and favours were all made on our craft night as well as many hours spent in charity shops finding wedding dresses to make scarecrow signs from and hats to hang from the ceiling, an idea from Hannah’s dad!

Food
The food was amazing By Paisley Flour Catering, Emma from Paisley Flour, who organised it all was fantastic to us all day. We had our own spin on a funky afternoon tea! The guests were greeted with a Pimms and ice cream on arrival Then the guests where led to sit down to tables full of sandwiches, fancy salads, Moroccan cous cous, mini beef Yorkshire puddings, chicken ceaser parcels, mini sweet treats and that was just the beginning for dinner!
The evening food was meant to symbolise our travels around the world, it was served from giant pans as street food. We had the choice of Pad Thai Noodles, Seafood and chicken Paella and pulled beef burgers on a brioche bun. This was all accompanied by more salads, prawn crackers and other treats! The drinks where flowing all day and night too from a private portable bar and more champagne, Pimms and Enville ale supplied by us!

Wedding Cake
Pip has a sweet tooth and Hannah is very savoury so there was only one thing to do… 2 cakes!
A nine tiered cheese cake with plenty of stilton, cheddar and soft cheeses for Hannah supplied by ‘Godminster’ cheese.
A matching nine tiered naked cake for Pip with a range of flavours including palma violet icing! Oh and a basket of 100 homemade brownies all made by our good friend Simon, who also made the wedding cake. Of course all decorated with more wild flowers.

Entertainment
We had a DJ playing music throughout the day for us, he was then joined by 9 piece soul band called The Red Lemons! They were one of the first bands we saw together on a night out and they certainly made the evening, everybody was up dancing to their soul classics! On their break the DJ took over and it’s safe to say the dance floor did not have a dull moment!

Stationery
We are really proud to say that everything was hand made by us and our families during the wedding planning.

Personal Touches
We tried to make the whole day personal to us and we think it really showed. We had pictures, poems, games set up. We also made the invites and order of services for the day and even chopped the wood for the table settings.

Special Moments or Highlights
The whole day was perfect to us and every moment was special! On the morning Pip was given cufflinks from his twin brother with pictures of his Nan and Grandad so that they could be there with us on the day. During the speeches Pip surprised me with a poem he had written for me, and presented me with a framed picture made from the first bouquet of roses he ever brought me! He had kept them and dried them for over 6 years without me ever knowing.

Advice for Other Couples
Be individual, think outside the box and let if reflect you two, it’s your day after all!

Biggest Surprise
The Sun shone all day for us! We couldn’t have asked for anything better! We had lots of lovely surprises throughout the day.
Our presents to each other Shoes for Hannah and a new guitar for Pip on the morning!
