Bridal Style: Halfpenny London AW17 Collection – ‘Standing on Stardust’

We feature a wide range of Bridal Style gowns, separates and outfits on the blog and this afternoon it’s time for a bit of glamour on Boho! Harking back to the days of disco, the new collection from Halfpenny London is just ready to party! With beautifully romantic detailing and embellishments these gowns will transition perfectly from aisle to dancefloor and we can’t wait to start featuring real brides rocking them!

Inspired by the hedonistic 1970’s New York club scene – the collection name actually comes from a reference to an infamous night at Studio 54 in which they poured a 4 inch layer of glitter on the floor!

I wanted it to be playful yet sexy and I think that shows through intricate beading and powerful silhouettes such as bold heavy duchess satin trousers; embroidered silken bees adorning the neckline of an open back top and skirts embellished with dreamlike feathers and sequin details. Essentially I love designing for real women and I am utterly obsessed with fabrics – always looking for innovative ways to flatter and skim the female form – this collection really challenges the preconceptions of traditional bridalwear and I loved discovering new fabrics and techniques when creating Standing on Stardust.

More about Halfpenny London

Before founding Halfpenny London in 2005 I studied textile design at Central St Martins and then spent the next ten years working as a celebrity stylist. It was during this time that I started designing dresses for my clients, I created pieces for amazing women such as Rihanna and British icons Emilia Fox, Erin O’Connor and Kate Moss. It was after Emilia, a good friend of mine, wore one of my dresses on her wedding day that Halfpenny London was born; I was inundated with requests and following a subsequent Vogue interview, I founded my eponymous wedding dress brand.

Years later I am thrilled to say that we are sold in the best bridal retailers across the UK and have recently expanded our reach, launching with some of the most prestigious US stores at the end of 2016.

Where are you based?

We have the most beautiful boutique and design atelier situated in London’s first pedestrianized shopping street in Bloomsbury. The boutique is one of my favourite places to be – it possesses a wealth of original Victorian features which I have offset with eclectic artworks, objets d’art and copper rails showing our collections.
