Ross and Vivien’s Laid Back Country Pub Wedding all Planned in 12 Weeks. Photos by Irene Yap

We have another gorgeous wedding for you today with some beautiful wedding photography from Irene Yap. Ross and Vivien planned their wonderful day in just 12 weeks, and the results are this lovely laid back wedding day that took place in their friends pub garden. With a gorgeous outdoor ceremony, beautiful blooms, a stunning Halfpenny London gown and their pet dog, Cookie Monster as dog of honour, this wedding is a beautiful day from start to finish.

Our wedding was intimate, casual and full of love being surrounded by our closest family and friends. The food was divine and the location was just idyllic

Vivien and Ross were married on the 27th August 2016 at The Pot Kiln, Berkshire. ‘We know the owner Mike Robinson (of The Harwood Arms, Fulham) so we go to the pub all the time. The food is fantastic there, it is such a cute and cosy pub, and it was meaningful to us, so we asked if we could. We were their first wedding. We had 40 guests and the wedding took just 12 weeks to plan. After we got engaged I thought why wait till next year – lets get married this summer. Ross replied ‘let’s do it’ and so we did!’

How they met
We met many time over the years through work then one day Ross decided to ask me out on a date. We had dated for nearly two years before getting engaged.

The Proposal
We love the English countryside and so on one of our regular weekends away during a hike, Ross got down on bended knee and asked me to be his wife. It wasn’t planned and he didn’t have the ring with him. He had actually been planning a big proposal in Peru where we were travelling to the next month. So we drove back into London to pick up the ring and get gave it to me on the top of Primrose Hill.

How did you allocate your budget?
Most of our budget went on my dress, then food and alcohol then flowers and the band. My friend Claudine Bush did the flowers and they were an absolutely stunning array of wild flowers and looked much more expensive than they were.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
I got carried away with my dress, I walked in to Halfpenny and fell in love with the dress. I was planning on buying an off the rack high street dress. I figured, you only wear it once so I didn’t see it as a priority however I loved wearing my Halfpenny dress on the day and I am soooooo pleased I splurged. I saved by not having a mad hen party, ridiculous party favours and fireworks etc. We kept the table decorations simple and elegant. I also wore these amazingly comfortable pair of sparkly espadrilles as my wedding shoes rather than spurge on a pair of Manalo Blaniks. I spotted them whilst travelling through Sweden and had to have them – a steal at 60 Euros. We also saved by sending invites through paperless post. I only had three months to plan the wedding so I didn’t really have time to get the stationary printed.

Why did you choose your photographer?
I chose Irene Yap because she came highly recommended by a photographer friend of mine and when I met her, she was so adorable I liked her instantly. She could have been my little sister. I interviewed a lot of photographers and you need to have a good rapport if you are to get great photos I think. Irene Yap is truly gifted and she is the loveliest person you will ever meet. Her photos speak for themselves – they tell a wonderful story.

The Dress
My dress was called Vera from Halfpenny London. Diamond stud earrings (wedding gift from my parents), bracelet from Anabela Chan (a wedding gift from her), and shoes from a random shop in Sweden. Pink Hunter Wellies for the wedding photos

The Suit and Bridesmaids
A tailor on Savile Row made the suit. No bridesmaids – My dog of honour Cookie Monster wore a homemade bow tie!

Theme or Colour Scheme
Our theme was a laid back country wedding – wild flowers, deer skin rugs and a bonfire to toast marshmallows on.

Flowers
We chose flowers that were mainly in Season; I really likes Peony’s but they were not in season, so we chose David Austin roses instead for the bouquet, that are the same shape and pale pink colour as peony’s. We also dressed up an old vintage bike with beautiful pale pink dahlia’s and avalanche roses, daisy’s, wax flowers and hydrangea.

Decoration
We had little candles in jars, our stretch tent was softly lit by oriental lampshades and fairy lights. It made the place very warm and cosy. We mainly used flowers to decorate the place.

Food
For canapes we had The Pot Kilns famous venison sausage rolls, scotch eggs, prawn cocktail and creamy Oysters. We had sangria and Pisco sours to start.
We had whole suckling pig roasted in the pizza oven, whole roasted seabass and venison pie with sides of mash potatoes and huge range of salads. It was a bit like a feast – everything was placed in the middle of the table for sharing so it wasn’t formally presented
We had pizza from the pizza oven at midnight to keep the party round the bonfire going.

Wedding Cake
We had a beautifully moist carrot cake from Bea’s of Bloomsbury. Three tiers decorated with flowers.

Entertainment
We had a brilliant three piece live band called Stanley Park.

Stationery
We had stationery from Paperless post

Personal Touches
Party favours were boxes of my mochi desserts. We also put wellington boots on for our wedding photos in fields and forest surrounding the pub. We also had my dog Cookie Monster with us in many of the shots. The whole wedding felt personal as we were in our mate’s pub, his wife Claudine had organised the decorations and wedding and flowers for us. We had our dog running around on the day, I got to speak to everyone at the wedding. We had a dance and shared some laughs. It was such a wonderful day.

Special Moments or Highlights
The speeches were the highlight of the day, tears of laughter and sentimentality. The other highlight of the day was marrying the man of my dreams and saying ‘I Do’

Advice for other couples
My advice is to truly enjoy the day. Take some time out to spend with your Husband – just the two of your. Don’t sweat the small stuff – even if the flowers don’t turn up or something goes wrong, the main thing is that you are there to marry the man of your dreams. The rest of it is a distraction.

Biggest Surprise
The biggest surprise was that my husband was waiting for me at the ‘alter’ in a rather dapper suit – he had been threatening me with board shorts (he’s Australian) which I was fine with…. Better than nude I say! He did have matching shorts made to match his suit so he changed into those after the ceremony and photos. It was such a relaxed wedding, shorts worked perfectly.
