Boho Loves: Trafalgar Tavern Event Venue

Today we are welcoming Laura our London representaive back to the Blog. Today she is here to tell you all about her trip along the River Thames, as she visited The Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich.

The Trafalgar Tavern opened in 1837 to celebrate Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar. 175 years later it remains a landmark, combining old world glamour with contemporary drinking, dining and entertainment. Set in the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, on the banks of the Thames. Restored back to its former splendour, the Trafalgar Tavern has a traditional feel, it also offers a series of function rooms that range from a magnificent banqueting hall (The Nelson Room) to a retro- inspired two-room (The Trafalgar Club). Al fresco seating is also available along the riverside.

‘The Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich is, a surprising venue for a wedding reception but totally perfect’

Licensed to hold civil wedding ceremonies, The Nelson Room is a popular location for nuptials. This grand space overlooks the Thames and offers stunning views of London to complement the surroundings. Next door is The Admiral’s Gallery, a uniquely designed space ideal for private parties, with its own bar and further amazing views of the river.  Both these rooms are available for hire together with the adjoining Ante Room, accommodating up to 200 guests.
Perfect for parties, The Trafalgar Club has a nightclub feel and a retro-inspired design.  Split over two floors with a cool underground bar, this part of the venue is home to regular club nights. This area can hold 45 seated or 120 for a standing reception.

Here is what Laura had to say

It isn’t the location that surprises; the venue sits in a prime spot on the river Thames, nor is it the décor, with the historic building decorated in a way sensitive to it’s Victorian and Maritime history. What does surprise though, is the size and luxuriousness of the reception rooms – located upstairs above the Gastropub area of the building. The vast wedding venue rooms, with balconies overlooking the Thames, have views out to Canary Wharf in the north and The Millennium Dome in the east, and they are magnificently decorated in a regency style.

We were lucky enough to be invited for a menu tasting and Q&A with the head of events at The Trafalgar Tavern and it is fair to say that we were suitably impressed. The service was attentive yet not overbearing, and the food was delicious. Canapés were varied and worked well with bubbles and Pimms on arrival and the three-course menu was perfectly balanced, leaving us that perfect level of satisfied but not stuffed – exactly how you want your guests to feel pre-wedding boogie.

The venue, though styled beautifully with many 19th century touches, came across as incredibly versatile. The events manager stressed the flexibility of the menu, room setup options and styling, painting a picture of a venue that, although requiring very little dressing, can also act as a blank canvas to brides and grooms to be who wish to make a venue their own.

Cruising down the Thames on the way back, I couldn’t help but imagine how perfect this venue would be for a very London wedding – with a champagne reception boat cruise followed by canapés and wedding breakfast upon reaching The Trafalgar Tavern. Follow this with a Pimms whilst watching the sunset over the Thames and I think this could be a recipe for a perfect British wedding.
