Today we are back with our good friend Laura from Babb Photo as she shares with us a gorgeous Edinburgh Wedding that took place in Autumn of last year. The wedding is set in the Timberyard restaurant, a cool restaurant where Laura and Martin could indulge their love of food and really go to town on the menu. The results are a beautiful wedding with a forest theme that looks amazing with lots of wonderful details and the most amazing dessert table.
Laura and Martin were married on 8th October 2015 at The Timberyard Restuarant in Edinburgh. ‘We wanted our wedding to be held somewhere we could go back to and re‑visit, and that was also somewhere we loved. We came across Timberyard restaurant through the magic of Google and the fact that is was in Edinburgh, one of our favourite cities was the icing on the cake. Timberyard fitted everything we could have wanted in a venue, amazing atmosphere, intimate warm and beautiful Scandinavian‑style interiors, a gorgeous little outdoor courtyard, plus lots and lots of candlelight. They also make unbelievable food as well as all their own soft drinks, we’re major foodies so this was heaven for us! We also wanted somewhere that really appreciated the importance of details.’
How they met
We met 12 years ago in a dodgy club in Newcastle, six weeks before we both went to Uni.
The Proposal
We got engaged in Bergen, Norway the day before our 10 year anniversary in the middle of a woodland walk at the top of a hill overlooking Bergen. We were engaged just over two years before our wedding day.
How did you choose your photographer
Laura was an absolutely pleasure to work with from start to finish, super professional and friendly, and made sure we made the most of every opportunity that came along throughout the day! The photos look amazing and exactly what we were hoping for!
The Dress
I fell in love with my dress after seeing it online (Phase Eight). It was the first one I tried on and I knew straight away it was the one. I’ve always loved the 1920’s, so the all‑over beading and column shape with a keyhole back detail was perfect. I also had a beautiful hair comb which was a gift from my Granny, from a little bridal shop in Northumberland, and wore my own jewellery including some Norwegian earrings from my grandparents.
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Martin’s suit took him a while to find as he had a very specific idea about the type of checked tweed he wanted, as well as it being a three‑piece. Eventually we found the perfect one at Jigsaw. He also had a personalised tie pin as a gift from his parents.
Flowers
We wanted a real Autumnul forest feel and found Pyrus as they’d dressed our venue before. We wanted very natural and and simple but striking table decorations with lots of coloured glass bottles, Autumnul botanical dressing, and candlelight, with lots of bits and pieces for our guests to look at. We asked for rich and unstructured bouquets and posies with a real mixture of textures and Autumnul colours.
Entertainment
We had Edinburgh group, The Quartet playing music during the ceremony, and Glaswegian band Splendid Gentlemen playing from 8pm‑Midnight. Both were fantastic and really helped make the day special.
Advice to other couples
Other married couples said to us to keep reminding yourself to appreciate how amazing the day is from start to finish as it passes so quickly. We really tried to remember this and it definitely helped to stop the day from disappearing too quickly!
