Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers

Today I am delighted to welcome our resident flower expert Tracey from Campbell’s Flowers back to the blog to talk to us about the massive trend of Foliage flowers. We introduced you to Luxe Flowers last month when Tracey talked to you about Luxe Flower inspiration. Today she is back to explain exactly what ‘Foliage’ is and how to achieve it in your own wedding decoration. Tracey brings with her a wealth of experience and has some wonderful ideas for you all including some wonderful images from Ellie Grace Photography to show you.

I’ll pass you over to Tracey

Hello all. It’s lovely to be back again in our guise as Kelly’s regular floral feature writer and our massive thanks go out to her and her team for the chance to talk again about all things flowery with you lovely readers.
Today we’re going to be featuring fabulous foliage.
Can I start by just saying we’re huge fans of the green stuff. Not only is it incredibly versatile, but it’s a truly wonderful way of ‘bringing the outdoors in’ – something which works well with the ethos here at Campbell’s HQ of creating beautiful, natural designs which let the materials we’re working with really shine. We also just adore all the forms, colours and textures it comes in too and have found our fashion forward brides are embracing foliage in favour of last year’s, much used, white gypsophila. We say hurrah for foliage, no longer let it be known as ‘a bit of greenery’!

Not only are they bang on trend but their versatility means you can choose something really simple as a few baubles filled with little sprigs of foliage or the cutest succulents – perfect for the budget-conscious bride. Or, to seriously ramp up the impact, what about a statement piece which creates that wow factor and a sense of drama (nothing makes us happier to hear back from a couple that all their guests admired the flowers). Here, we designed a series of quirky yet really soft and natural picture frames hung with foliage. Pretty and effective.
For those outdoor areas, think about using a vintage or antique chair adorned with a cushion of moss and select foliage outside your venue. Hang a cute ‘To the wedding’ sign from it and you’ve got your directional signage covered and not a lost guest in sight!

Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers As you’ll know from reading our recent Autumn feature on Kelly’s blog, I’m all in favour of stretching your floral designs to help earn their keep and work hard for you, so think about decorating key areas simply but effectively. One idea, which is perfect for those looking to show personality and individuality on their day, would be to create the prettiest of backdrops using individual stems of contrasting foliage, Just gorgeous indoors behind the top table, don’t you think?

Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers As ever, the shape of your bridal bouquet is very much dependent upon the silhouette of your gown and we chose the gorgeous ‘dress ‘ by Suzanne Neville from The White Room for its beautiful design and simple silhouette. We’ve teamed this gown with a very soft, flowing, cascading bouquet, full of textures, subtle contrasting colours and the sweetest smelling, seasonal white broom.

Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers Ask The Experts: Foliage Flower Inspiration from Campbell Flowers We adore hair flowers of all shapes and sizes and here Julia Jeckell has worked her magic by creating quite distinct looks, both of which are perfect for a relaxed wedding. In the first, Julia kept make very soft and natural and created a pretty plait which we adored with individually wired and taped select sprigs of foliage in contrasting colours and textures. In the second, Julia worked with a stronger palette using a gorgeous green eye shadow and finishing the look with hair down in soft curls. To compliment this look, I created a really versatile and pretty foliage ‘tiara’ which can be worn on the top of the head or to one side – depending on the hair style you’ve decided upon.

Massive thanks go to the super talented and wonderful Ellie of Ellie Grace Photography for shooting these gorgeous images. Thanks too go to Julia Jeckell for her hair and make up expertise, infinite patience (!) and for finding our beautiful model, Christina from DK Models. Lastly, our thanks to everyone at The White Room bridal for lending us their beautiful gown.
