Bridal Style: Dahl – Amoureuse Collection

Today we have another stunning bridal collection, this week it’s from Dahl. This collection is beautiful with gowns for every shape, style and size. There’s lace, vintage and some silky fabrics. All of these dresses are each so unique. I know you will love them just as much as Kelly H and I.

‘Amoureuse is my second bridal collection. I strive to create pieces that look like they could have a history or a past, and combine that feeling of nostalgia with a modern silhouette and fabrics that move and stretch gracefully.’

We asked Dahl to tell us more about their brand and the new Amoureuse Collection…

Can you tell our readers more about the collection
Amoureuse is my second bridal collection. I strive to create pieces that look like they could have a history or a past, and combine that feeling of nostalgia with a modern silhouette and fabrics that move and stretch gracefully. I’m quite obsessed with vintage textiles, and I try to incorporate fabrics that look and feel as if they could have been made a long time ago. Having worked with quite a few women on their wedding dresses over the years has played a role in what we I design as well. I pay attention to how someone wants to feel in their dress, and how they’d like it to fit and fall, and try to assimilate some of that insight into the collections.

What were the main influences when designing it
There’s been a shift in mentality as to how the modern bride envisions herself on her wedding day and up until recently there have been few alternatives to the conventional bridal industry, where the options were either outmoded, overpriced or over-designed. This veritable lack of options is what drove me into bridal design–there was a void of contemporary wedding dresses for the free-spirits, the bohemians, the artists, the laidback girls who wanted a more personal and toned-down wedding dress. My “muse” is a mix of women I know or admire, she’s someone who never dreamed of the fairytale wedding but still wants to feel beautiful and special on her wedding day. Fabrics are a primary influence. The Paloma dress is a favorite because it’s a panel of gorgeous lace that looks like it could have come from your great grandmother’s attic–or dining room table. Florian also has a vintage vibe and to me looks like a rare piece of heirloom lace you could find at a flea market, I love pieces that look old or as if they have a past.

Can you tell me a bit more about your company
It wasn’t until planning my own wedding in that I realized the significance of wedding attire. I designed my wedding gown, seven bridesmaids dresses and three flower girl dresses for my wedding party. We were literally all Dahl’d up. This experience became the catalyst for a new collection–it had struck me that wedding attire can be incredibly meaningful and personal, and that we don’t all fit into the traditional bridal molds of style and aesthetic. I did a “soft launch” to begin, selling dresses directly from my website, on Etsy and in person from my studio in Brooklyn. It’s now been a few seasons and we’re slowly cultivating wholesale relationships, finding boutiques who share a similar sentiment to bridal.

Where are you based?
I am based in New York City. In some form or another, I have had my own clothing line since graduating from college. In the beginning it was all punk-inspired one-offs made from vintage and surplus fabrics under my very first label, Run R1ot (the “1” symbolizing one-offs). I happily sold these mini-collections on consignment. Dahl began as a ready-to-wear line when I moved to New York in 2006 with a focus on dresses and tops, but mainstream fashion was not my jam. Designing wedding gowns for a few friends, my sister, and then for myself, landed me in the bridal nook (which at first scared me because I thought the stigma attached to “bridal designer” was pretty cheesy and uncool), but now I fully embrace it.
