Hannah and Robert’s Colourful Informal Leicester Wedding By Coates and Stain Photography

Happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween filled weekend! As we say good-bye to one holiday we say hello to another one as this week as we celebrate Bonfire night, do you have anything planned? I can’t wait! It’s another jam-packed week on the blog, starting off with this colourful and informal wedding that takes place at the Guildhall in Leicester. It’s a fun-filled wedding full of vintage details, personal touches and lots of smiles. Big thanks to Coates and Stain Photography for the images.

‘The most perfect day ever. Everyone we care about and love in one room with lots of drinking’

Hannah and Robert were married on Saturday 18th July 2015 at The Guildhall Leicester and the reception was held at St Martins House Leicester. ‘We looked around a few places as we were not quite sure what we wanted! None of us are religious so we didn’t want a church wedding but wanted somewhere with history and character. As soon as we walked into The Guildhall we knew that was the one and based all our other decisions around that. We had 80 guests in the day and in the evening around 120. We wanted the the whole day to be very informal and more like a party to celebrate! We got married almost exactly 2 years to the day after we were engaged but were planning for about 18 months albeit with not solidly.’

How they met
We met at University in Leicester. Rob was in the flat next door to me. After about 30 minutes of being there I managed to lose my key! As I was searching for it I bumped into Rob on the stairs who had found it. We were friends for a while before becoming a couple. That was nearly 7 years ago now.

The Proposal
I took Hannah to London for her Birthday weekend to see Mumford and Sons on Hyde Park. The plan was to propose to her during her favourite song but Hannah ruined the proposal in a shopping centre so it ended up happening right there and then!

How did you allocate your budget
We had a rough idea of how much we wanted to spend and broadly stuck to it. However, we did get over excited at times!

How did you choose your photographer
Our photographer was recommend to us by my sister who knew one of them through her friend (he is her husband). We had spent a while looking as it was something that was really important to get right to us. As soon as we saw their pictures we knew that Coates and Stain were the right choice. After meeting Andrew and Jonathan for the first time we were so glad we did! Rob is very awkward and they made us both feel relaxed and took the most beautiful pictures.

The Dress
Mori Lee. My shoes were Kurt Geiger London and my bracelet was my ‘something old’ from my Grandma.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
The suits were from Next and bridesmaids dresses from ASOS. Nothing too fancy!

Theme or Colour Scheme
We booked Orange tree weddings to style and cater for our wedding. There style is vintage and quirky and we had lots of discussions about what colours and style we wanted. They did the most amazing job and everyone commented how fantastic the room looked! Lots of bunting, fabrics and lights with personalised chalk boards (That we know have hanging in our living room).

Flowers
My flowers were by CK Flowers in Leicester. I had a mixture of flowers in my bouquet which she hand tied with twine. The bridesmaids all had simple bouquets of gypsophila tied with twine and pearls which looked beautiful.

Decoration
On the tables we had jam jars of flowers. The room was decorated with lots of brightly coloured fabric drapes and lights. We had photo boards of me and Rob when we were kids (There’s some shockers in there) and a white vintage post box for cards. The personalised chalk boards made by Jules (Orange Tree) were a highlight for us! Rob loved the table plan she made so much (based on a Radiohead album) it is now hanging in our dining room!

Food
We had sharer platters for starters (Italian meats, olives, breads, mozzarella and oils), followed by a choice of Slowed cook lamb or veggie tagine or a more traditional Beef in ale, finishing with Summer fruit crumble or eton mess. In the evening we had slowed booked beef brisket, slaws & brioche buns – unfortunately we both forgot to eat it!

Wedding Cake
The wedding cake was made by Helen Alborn. We both are not keen on icing so decided to have a ‘naked’ cake. Each layer was a different flavour: raspberry and white chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, salted caramel and blueberry and limoncello. It was simple decorated with flowers from the bouquet and ivy and presented on a wooden log for a rustic look.

Entertainment
We had a photo booth in the evening which was a big hit and the guests all seemed to enjoy! We also had a band, The Supertones, who were amazing and had everyone dancing all night! Even when the lights came on at the end (we definitely overshot the curfew).

The Stationery
Moonpie designs made our invitations, RSVPs and menu cards in the style we wanted. She’s an independent graphic designer based in Leicester who creates all the promotional material & menus for the Orange Tree pub chain.

Personal or Handmade Touches
All of the guests had name badges instead of place cards. As favours each guest had a scratch card – I think the biggest win was £5!

Special Moments
Walking down the aisle and dancing at the end the night away with all of our guests. Also being in the courtyard after the ceremony where we hand drinks, canapés and a string quartet playing in the beautiful sunshine with all of our families together.

Advice to other couples
Enjoy every moment as it goes so fast!
Don’t be too worried or scared about the big day, everyone is there to make sure you have the best day of your lives
Make spreadsheets – there’s alot to think about and having everything in one place made it all so much easier
Choose a photographer that makes you feel comfortable, it made such as difference to our day – they felt more like guests!

Biggest surprise
How relaxed Rob was!
