Rebecca and Robert’s ‘Pinwheels and Pompoms’ Relaxed Tipi Wedding by Binky Nixon Photography

Todays wedding is a real treat and comes from one of my favourite photographs and all round lovely lady Binky from Binky Nixon Photography. I had the pleasure of working with Binky a couple of years ago on a rather fabulous wedding and since then I have always loved featuring her work on the blog. Todays wedding of Rebecca and Robert is a smasher, a relaxed tipi wedding with lots of pinwheels and pompoms, cute decor, a fabulous cake, some really tasty looking food and the most beautiful wedding dress from Rebecca. A beautifully day, captured perfectly by Binky.

‘I think we only need two words, absolutely perfect’

Rebecca and Robert were married on 25 April 2015 at All Saints Church, Chalgrave in Bedfordshire and the reception was held in a Tipi at Flaxbourne Gardens in Apsley Guise, Bedfordshire. ‘My mum is the Rector at All Saints, which is a gorgeous little church surrounded by the countryside, so it was only natural that we got married there. We wanted a classical wedding service in a classical church, but we wanted the reception to be fun and relaxed, that is why we chose to hire tipis and it was the tipi company that suggested Flaxbourne Gardens. We had 81 guests for both the church and reception. We had been engaged for 2 years, so I suppose it took us two years to plan but I, (Rebecca) has been collecting ideas for ages.’

How they met
We met at Batchwood nightclub in St Albans, so not very romantic at all, and have been together for 8 years.

The Proposal
We got engaged at Cleveleymere, we were toasting marshmallows by a stream on the edge of the woods. www.cleveleymere.com

How did you allocate your budget
We had a fixed number, we started with a very controlled spreadsheet, but towards the end it all went out the window.

How did you choose your photographer
Binky was recommended by a friend, and when we saw her work on her website, we knew we had to have her. We loved her modern take on classical images.

The Dress
My dress is called Lauren by Eliza Jane Howell, which I got from the Morgan Davis in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. They had so many gorgeous dresses, but this was the only one that made me cry so I knew it was the one. My shoes were from Rachel Simpson and where pale green and my veil was Rosehill from Joyce Jackson. Roberts’s shoes were from Paul Smith.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
The suit was made by Fogarty in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Rob designed his own suit choosing the fabric, stitching and buttons. It was a navy suit with a Harris Tweed waist coat

Theme or Colour Scheme
We didn’t really have a theme, we just knew we wanted a very tradition formal church service filled with lots of white and green flowers, and then have our reception as a more fun and relaxed informal party space.

Flowers
Within the church we had simple white gypsophila and greenery round the tops of the columns, on every pew end and around the edge of the pulpit, over the door we had white hydrangeas, white roses and white stocks. My bouquet was made of arum lilies keeping the stems long for a more classical look to match the dress. The button holes where roses and my dad had a rose and blue thistle.

Decoration
We kept the church very simple and just had flowers. At the tipi we had white pinwheels and pompoms under the waterfall – the main entrance into the gardens, and inside we just had a few jam jars with flowers on the tables and huge balloons attached to neon pink velvet. We didn’t want to go over the top in the tipi, as we didn’t want to take away from all the fairy lights that were twisted up the tipi poles. To keep up the fun of the tipis we had pompom name tags, these added a bit of colour to the tables. Within our smaller tipi with had benches and coffee tables, with sheepskin throws over them. We also hired in some extra props including beer barrels to act as tables, we also hired the jam jars for the Mr & Mrs cocktails and the chalkboards for the BBQ and cocktail menus

Food
Kingfisher Catering did our food. We had canapés in the garden we had; Crispy pork belly; spiced bramley apple; Caramelised onion and applewood tartlet; Spanish tortilla, chorizo, lemon aioli; Confit lamb shoulder croquette; sticky red onion jam; and Tempura tiger prawns, sweet chilli.
We had a delicious BBQ for the main consisting of Spanish sausages; lemon & summer herb chicken; Minute Steaks; a Monkfish, tiger prawn & salmon skewers and marinated Haloumi & vegetable skewers. Accompanied by bowls of hand cut chips; Tuscan Panzanella; Rocket, pine nut & Parmesan salad and mixed baby leaves with lime & coriander dressing.
We had a trio of desserts for pudding including a blondie, lemon tart and sticky toffee pudding

Wedding Cake
There were four tiers, 2 tiers where the same size, we had two layers of chocolate orange, one of salted caramel and the top tier was lemon drizzle made by the lovely Karen-Anna.

Entertainment
Our band in the evening was The In-Laws, they got everyone up and dancing, even my Gran busted some moves!

Special Moments
The whole day was special; we couldn’t have asked for anymore, it was perfect!

Advice to other couples
Enjoy it and try and relax, it is a cliché but the day does go so quickly, so try and find a quiet moment for you a your new husband/wife to catch your breath and sit back and enjoy what you have created. On the day just go with the flow, remember know one knows what should have happened so don’t worry about the small details

Biggest surprise
That Rebecca was only 30mins late for the church!
