Gemma and Paul’s Tractor Riding, Aftenoon Tea Loving, English Country Wedding. By Brook Rose Photography

We have made it to the end of the week, woo hoo! How are you all feeling? Excited for the weekend? I am SO excited! Today I have a pampering afternoon planned, nails are getting done, as is my hair! Tomorrow we have a BBQ for Dexter at one of his playgroups and then Nik and I are off for a very rare night out together, food and cocktails are on the menu! What about you?
I have a cracking wedding to end the week with, a wedding full of English country goodness. Tractor rides, afternoon tea, Hog roasts and bunting, oh so English. Thanks to Brook from Brook Rose Photography for the lovely submission.

‘We combined vintage and classic to create something beautiful, fun and quite simply amazing. We tried to ensure our guests were happy and made to feel special too’

‘Paul and I have lived in Sulgrave for the last two years and I also grew up in the village. As a child, I attended Sunday school and therefore had a natural connection with the village church. We are lucky to have the beautiful and historical Sulgrave Manor on our doorstep so naturally we wanted to hold the reception there too. We had 155 guests in total. Paul proposed on September 13th 2014 so all in all 9 months to plan.

How they met
We met online and we were lucky enough to find each other, start taking and meet within the first week of signing up! We were on and off the site within a week, when you know, you know.

The Proposal
Paul proposed down on one knee on holiday in September, overlooking Windermere lake in the Lake District

How did you choose your photographer
I chose Brook because I loved her style. We have been to some weddings where the bride and groom appear to miss large sections of the day because they are being moved from place to place for photos and we decided we wanted to be involved with as much as we could! It was therefore important for us to choose someone we trusted to capture the special moments of the day whilst we were left to enjoy them

The Dress
Dress from Wedding Belles, Banbury. I have known Carol the owner of Wedding Belles since attending secondary school with her daughter so it was lovely to go the shop and know I was in safe hands. Carol just knows exactly what will show off your best assets.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
We chose the suits from Moss Bros as Paul’s best men and ushers were based at various places in the country so it made it easier for suit fittings

Theme or Colour Scheme
I had 9 bridesmaids who wore purple but other than that we didn’t try to match colours too much, very country kitchen, natural and mismatch

Flowers
My friend went to the flower market in Birmingham at 4am, I’m actually not sure what types they were, she chose many different types of flowers based on images we had looked at and liked, then hand made the bouquets and filled the table vases. My cousin helped with this too and it made the flowers feel so much more special. They enjoyed doing it too

Decoration
Paul’s mum and aunt made LOTS of bunting in the build up to our big day, it was perfect.

Buy or DIY your Stationery
The best man Dave works for a stationary company who took care of our stationary for us, our invites were designed by our usher Nick too. I made menu cards for the table and our seating plan too.

Personal or Handmade Touches
Oh my goodness, where to start.
– My dad loves tractors and has two vintage tractors. We asked him if we could use these as our wedding transport and he was over the moon. He spent 9 months polishing, cleaning and painting them! My twin brother Craig drove the bridesmaids to the church on one tractor and my older brother dean drove my dad and I on the other. It was just such a special way to arrive at the church and we all loved it.
– Paul’s mum and aunt made bunting for us and also individual name glass charms, these were placed on everyone’s wine glass as a keep sake.
– Wedding favours were boxes we made up, the men had personalised love hearts with the date of our wedding on and chocolate footballs as Paul plays football.
– The girls had a chocolate with the date of our wedding on and a lip balm.
– I made raspberry jam in tiny jars and hand wrote everyone’s names on the top, these acted as the name places and also the jam was perfect with the scones on the day.
– The children had goodie bags containing wands, colouring books, sticker books etc. the babies had a book each with personal messages for each child.
– I love to bake cakes so we had a pimp your cupcake table allowing for people to create their own cupcake and little boxes so they could take them home.
– As I said Paul loves football so we had an inflatable penalty shoot out, this was a nice link to Paul’s hobby but also kept the children entertained.
– Each lady had a recipe book at their place to take home, these were all based around sweet treats like cakes and chocolate etc.
– We had Polaroid pictures of the two of us on a washing line across one side of the hall.
– We had a snack table with midnight snack bags encouraging guests who were staying away to take items back to their hotel or bed and breakfast with them.
– The cake was made by a friend, I bought the cake toppers a few weeks before and thought it would be nice to include out much loved cat Jinksy on our cake too.

Advice to other couples
Honestly, do what makes you both happy and try to keep it personal, but also try and think about your guests too. We wanted our friends and family to have a special day too so continuously thought about what would make for an all round great day. If you’re guests are enjoying themselves then you both will have an incredible day. We didn’t stop smiling and neither did our guests.

Biggest surprise
Paul had delivered on the morning of the wedding a bear from the bear factory with a personalised message for me, very thoughtful and absolutely lovely, something I can keep forever. He came with a birth certificate and belonged to me in my new married name.
