Honeymoon Ideas – 7 Inventive Ideas for Honeymoons on a Budget

boho loves

This afternoon we are back with our monthly honeymoon feature from our resident Honeymoon expert Tom. Tom has given us lots of interesting honeymoon related advice over the last few months and today he is back talking us though a few budget friendly honeymoon ideas.

I’ll pass you over to Tom……

Having a smaller budget for your honeymoon doesn’t mean you have to settle for something less spectacular; when it comes to organising a honeymoon on a budget, the key is to be organised, flexible, and creative. Here are 7 inventive ideas for planning your dream budget honeymoon.

Sleep Cheap

One of the core costs of any holiday is the accommodation; a five star luxury hotel and the add-on of the ‘honeymoon suite’ will set you back a large chunk of your travel budget. So now is the time to weigh up what matters most to you and your partner. A four poster bed and a luxury setting to lay your head? Or the actual travel experience and the destination itself? Book a cheap B&B or choose a glamping option and you’ll have plenty of cash for wining, dining and other expensive activities.

Travel Off Season

Off season travel is one of life’s best kept secrets. Experience your destination without the crowds and without the inflated prices. For instance, an off season safari trip to Botswana (November to April) can be almost half the price if you don’t mind the odd rain shower, or winter in Venice can be surprisingly romantic as the island fills with mist and fog.

Build Your Own Honeymoon

The wedding industry is one of the most lucrative and 99% of the time, buyers will be paying full price. So don’t opt for a honeymoon holiday package (this will come with a premium price tag). Instead, use a flight searcher (such as Skyscanner) and private accommodation websites (such as AirBnB) to build your own holiday.

Plan Ahead

Last minute booking may roll out some holiday deals but it’s not wise to take the risk. Plan well in advance to avoid the inflated accommodation prices and make sure you search around for the best flight deals. Cruises often announce their itineraries around 14 months in advance so it’s never too early to start planning.

Honeymoon Gift Lift

If you can’t afford to fork out for those extra little luxuries during your honeymoon, why not let your wedding guests treat you? A honeymoon wedding gift list can make your romantic getaway extra special with those final touches. From a bottle of champagne on arrival to a hotel room upgrade, there are so many inventive gift ideas to add to your wish list.

Enjoy a Budget Minimoon

Minimoons and staycations are a popular choice for those who don’t have the luxury of time or the cash. Enjoy a weekend break in the UK if you need more time to save for the big trip, or turn your honeymoon into a series of minimoons and city breaks in Europe.

Hire a Motorhome

A motorhome holiday may not seem that glamorous but it will give you all the flexibility you could ask for. Motorhome campsites will give you access to facilities and amenities and you can sleep, travel and eat cheap along the way. Some of the most beautiful road trip routes can be found nearby in the UK or Europe or as far afield as New Zealand – and you can save your cash for the things that you really want to splash out on.
