Amanda and Richard’s Relaxed Homemade Tipi Wedding. By York Pace Studios

Happy Thursday everyone, I hope the day is going well for everyone. To carry on this week of wonderful weddings I have a rather gorgeous tipi wedding courtesy of Dominique and Liam from York Place Studios. As you know I do love a tipi wedding, they are always so relaxed and chilled out, perfect if you are looking for something a little less traditional. This handmade wedding is filled with lots of little personal touches, great food, great music and lots of baking. A wonderful mixture of love, laughter and some wonderful photography.

‘A relaxed tipi wedding with homemade décor and the best bunch of people to share our day with. An amazing, wonderful day of laughs, love and many tears that we will always remember.’

Amanda and Richard were married on 4th April 2015 at The ceremony was at All Saints Church, Lupton, Cumbria with the reception being held in tipis at our local rugby club in Kirkby Lonsdale. ‘The church has always been a part of Richard’s life, having taken parts in many Christmas nativities there during his childhood. It is also very close to our family farm and is where Grandad Barton is buried. We have always loved the idea of tipis and the relaxed, fun atmosphere that they help to create. We hired ours from Fjell Event Tipis, based in Keswick, and had them in the grounds of Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club, where Richard has played rugby since the age of six. There was 85 guests for the day plus an additional 70 for the evening reception. It took About 18 months to plan the wedding.’

How they met
We have been together for over eight years now. We met in the local pub where Amanda worked, after a game of rugby.

The Proposal
I proposed to Amanda while out walking our dog, Tilly, on top of a hill just behind the family farm. It’s only a small hill but has fantastic views down the Lune Valley and over to Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales.

How did you choose your photographer
We really wanted a photographer that captured the emotions and the atmosphere of the day, through a documentary style. We came across York Place Studios and loved their work. We really like how they came as a pair and were able to capture both sides of the family getting ready on the morning of the wedding. Dom and Liam were incredible.

The Dress
My dress and veil was a Forget-me-not design. I had small fresh roses in my hair and wore sentimental family jewellery.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
The groomsmen were dressed in Westbury suits by Peter Posh and the bridesmaids wore Phase 8 dresses.

Theme or Colour Scheme
We were inspired by things that we love and are important in both our lives: books, rugby, good music and baking! Amanda also loves the colour duck egg.

Flowers
Mostly pastel roses, ranunculi’s, eucalyptus and some gypsophila

Decoration
Bunting, fairy lights, ivy, milk bottles with flowers and books for centre pieces. The table names were fictional places from our favourite books such as The Shire, and we had Cadbury’s mini eggs for favours (as we got married on Easter Saturday).

Food
We started with antipasti platters to share as we thought they would be a great way to get people talking. Followed by roast beef and all the trimmings! In the evening we served bacon butties with wedges.

Wedding Cake
Richard’s mum made a traditional fruit wedding cake. We also had some close friends bake a variety of cakes and we had a very large cake table for people to pick and choose from in the evening.

Entertainment
We hired a local band called the Long Players. They specialise in rock n roll covers both vintage and modern. A personal favourite was Johnny B. Goode. They also did an amazing, impromptu cover of Wonderwall by Oasis that got everyone on the dance floor.

Buy or DIY your Stationery
Amanda and her mum are both very creative and made most things themselves e.g. invitations, order of service, table plan, name tags, order of the day board, etc. buying in the materials to do it.

Special Moments
Oh a tricky one… to be honest the whole day was incredible. Although, the day ended perfectly for us when we had a moonlit walk across the rugby pitch, to our hotel with our friends (some of whom were a little worse for wear!). Amanda had a blanket over her shoulders whilst I held her dress out of the mud.

Biggest surprise
The weather! It was horrible either side of the day but the sun came through for us.

Advice to other couples
For us we just wanted it to create a relaxed atmosphere and ensure that everybody had a good time. We kept this in the back of our mind from choosing music that would get everyone on the dance floor, involving friends and family in creating small details such as the cake table and having goodie bags to keep the children entertained. Just keep in mind what is important for you as couple and don’t be swayed too far by other people’s opinions. As for the day itself, relax and make sure you take time to take a step back and take it all in!
