Catherine and Neil’s White Turquoise and Mint Ibiza Wedding. By Gypsy Westwood

I have a gorgeous wedding for you today, and for me it is a very special one as it comes from Ibiza, and features the same lady that married Nik and I. I do love featuring Ibiza weddings, especially at this time of year when the weather is so miserable. The Ibiza sunshine is enough to put anyone in a good mood on a cold and dark Wednesday morning! This wedding in particular is stunning, captured beautifully by the very talented Gypsy Westwood. With a lovely colour scheme of white, turquoise and mint, perfect to reflect the amazing view looking out to Es Vedra, a mystical rock on the south side of the island! Catherine and Neil have created a wonderful wedding, beautifully elegant with a touch of the modern and a lot of Ibiza chic!

‘The wedding was exactly what we wanted – very relaxed, in a fantastic setting, amazing weather and glorious food. Everybody had such an enjoyable time including the children and we couldn’t have asked for any more.’

Catherine and Neil were married on the 23rd of August at the Elixir Shore Club – Cala Codolar Ibiza. ‘We love the island and have visited many times – it’s like nowhere else on earth and has so many beautiful places to visit. Once we visited Elxir we knew immediately it was where we wanted to hold the wedding. The style and relaxed setting of the place – coupled with amazing view of Es Vedra was everything we wanted to encompass from our day. We had 45 guests and took 12 months to plan the wedding’.

How they met
We have probably known each other since we were children, in our early lives100 yrds apart but moved in completely different circles. We met back up in our home town of Wigan in 2001 after Catherine had finished university (going on to live in NYC for a few months) and have been together now for 12 years.

The proposal
The proposal was in Ibiza Town while we were having dinner one evening – we had been through a difficult few months and came to Ibiza to get our heads together. We always said that we didn’t want to get married but at that time in that place it felt like the right thing!

How did you allocate your budget?
50% of our budget went on venue and catering. This was the most important part for us. The rest was just divided up evenly between everything else.

Why did you choose your photographer?
We had seen Gypsy Westwood’s work on a website called White Ibiza, immediately loved everything about her work and style. We just knew that she was exactly what we wanted, relaxed, informal but with a romantic, modern edge. We most definitely made the right choice choosing Gypsy!

The Dress
Alice Temperley Dress, headband was my ‘something borrowed’ from a lovely friend at work. Sandals from Moda in Pelle. Bracelet from Accessorize.

The suit and bridesmaids
Neil wore an All Saints jacket and shirt, Boden Chinos and Toms.
Bridesmaids wore ASOS Black Dresses with turquoise jewellery (sourced from ebay) with sandals from Monsoon.
Flower Girls Isla & Imogen had dressed from ‘Ilovegorgeous’ (amazing little dresses, beautifully made) and sandals from Monsoon. Bows & Arrows for little Camilla and sandals from Vertbaudet. All hair accessories from Monsoon.

Theme or colour scheme
The colour scheme all started with the Flower Girl dress colours – the turquoise + mint became ‘the colour’ and we then linked in jewellery and Neil’s trousers with the rest.

Decoration
Silver lanterns, white candles, love letters, hanging twinkly tree decorations, tealights, olive sprigs adorned the napkins. Vintage but with a modern twist.

Flowers
My bouquet consisted of white fressia’s & white roses. Bridesmaids and flower girls had white rose corsages. Table centres were olive sprigs decorated with white love hearts.

Food
After the ceremony, delicious warm crispy bruschettas and canapés. Pomegranate cava, Elixir cocktails. We chose a luxury BBQ menu from Eat Ibiza which consisted of the most amazing meat and fish dishes. Just a few to mention are: local line caught seasonal fish, roasted cherry tomato & fresh basil parcels, whole slow BBQ’d leg of organic lamb rubbed with sweet spiced harissa, wood roasted red peppers and sundried paprika, chargrilled prime fillet steak turned in fresh herbs. Salads and sides also. The dessert table later in the evening was just to die for.

Entertainment
A Spanish guitarist played after the ceremony and then we had DJ Steve (Elixir Resident DJ) playing music until late.

Personal or handmade touches
We bought canvas favour pouches, our names and date of the wedding printed on the front. Neil is a very passionate Everton supporter so we filled the bags with black & white ‘Everton’ mints. White Wayfarer sunglasses were provided (sourced from ebay) for every single guest, children had smaller colourful versions. Vickki displayed them beautifully on a table for us and we took a sign out that said ‘Don’t get blinded by our love’ – the glasses were a big hit with guests wearing them on the day and for the rest of our stay in Ibiza!!

Special moments
The whole ‘getting ready’ part was so much fun, I think we all felt very relaxed and excited to have the day finally upon us. Seeing all our friends and family at Elixir was a moment we will never forget. The place, the people, the heat (it was a VERY hot day) but that just provided us with endless hilarious conversations with our guests. We chose to have a dressing up box later in the evening which was an instant hit – cue some very funny, drunken snaps of our friends!! The speeches from my Dad, Neil and Matt the best man were just brilliant – all delivered in their own unique way. Our beautiful daughters getting to share in their mummy & daddy’s wedding day.

Advice for other couples
We flew out to Ibiza in the May before our August wedding and that definitely calmed nerves. It gave us the opportunity to discuss and meet up with our wedding planner and everybody involved with the wedding day before the actual day.

We decided on El Chiringuito at Cala Gracionetta as it had more of a laid back boho feel to it and it was the beach that the Boy was going to propose at, had he found a ring!! We always said that we would love to be a guest at someone’s wedding at Elixir – the food looks amazing! x

Hi Kelly, thanks to you and everyone else for all your lovely comments about our wedding – We had the most fantastic day!! Great to look back at the pics that Gypsy chose.
I’ve just realised that I didn’t mention the amazing childcare we used for the day – Kids in Ibiza. We had 9 young children at the wedding and they were entertained, played with + lovingly cared for, for a vast chunk of our day. I can highly recommend this service to anyone. Our contact was Marie who was just wonderful. Apologies for missing them out!
