Joe and Alison

‘A tiny church at the top of a hill in the middle of the countryside followed by a relaxed marquee reception with a natural/rustic, vintage type feel… in the middle of the countryside.’

First thing to mention – I won’t be joining the double-barrel club (I’ll let you work that one out!)
Joe and I have been together for over five years and have packed plenty into that time… including a round the world trip. This is something I would probably never have done without him. They say opposites attract and in our case this is probably very true. Joe is laid back, unorganised and lives for today. I get easily stressed, am super organised and spend too much time thinking about yesterday and tomorrow. This may sound like a recipe for disaster but we seem to balance each other out perfectly and meet happily in the middle.

I never really thought all that much about getting married until the last year or so and when we started to plan the wedding I wanted something quite relaxed and informal – which also meant we didn’t need to spend the earth. (I’m the saver, Joe’s the spender!). When we have talked about weddings in the past Joe has got carried away with the whole church thing, castles, medieval banquets… the list goes on… This is where our balancing out ethos comes into play and I help to bring him back down to earth and back to a reasonable budget!

The Wedding

We have chosen the church where I got christened and where my grandparents are buried. It is only tiny so will not seat all that many but we wanted something a little different so the tiny church on top of the hill in the middle of the countryside was perfect. We are then going to have a marquee reception at Joe’s parents house (again in the middle of the countryside with beautiful views). Our theme is a natural, rustic, vintage type feel so having a marquee gives us a blank canvas to create the look we want. We’ve already had lots of ideas of things we can make and do that will hopefully look really nice but also be a cheaper alternative to some of the options out there. I am a graphic designer so creativity is at the heart of everything I do and some of my skills should come in very handy!

We already have quite a few things booked. One of the first things after the church that we booked was our photographer. To me it is one of the most important parts of the day as it is what we will look back on (along with memories too – obviously!) Again, we didn’t want the traditional photography style and chose Laura Rhian Photography who has an alternative style just like what we wanted.
I also ordered my dress earlier in the year which is due in to the shop any time soon – I am, however, wondering if I may have been a little over organised on this as I have spent that much time looking at other dresses that I wonder if I chose too soon. We shall soon see when the dress gets into the shop (that may make for an interesting blog entry!)

Anyway, I look forward to keeping you updated.
