Emma and Jeremy’s Intimate Afternoon Tea Wedding. By Neil Jackson Photographic

Yay it’s Friday! I’m happy to see the end of the week not because it has been a bad week, just because it’s my wedding anniversary on Sunday and Nik and I are off for a week in Cornwall. We have a lovely night planned at the Fowey Hall Hotel, which is a very special place for us, as this is where we held the legal part of our wedding, before we held our wedding blessing in Ibiza. I’m really looking forward to a week away form the office, we will be staying with my mum for part of the week and she has no wifi or 3G so a totally unplugged break for me. Don’t worry though I am currently busy scheduling all my posts so that you have lots of wedding pretty to keep you occupied wile I’m away!

So onto the last wedding of the week and it comes form Neil Jackson. It’s a super cute intimate wedding that spread over 2 days. Day 1 was the ceremony and afternoon tea party, while day 2 was the evening reception complete with Photo Booth.

‘Small intimate wedding with our closest friends and family and lots of cake!! Exactly how we’d imagined it and it was us to a T!’

Emma and Jeremy were married on 2nd May at Ox Pasture Hall, Scarborough for the wedding and afternoon tea and East Ayton Lodge, East Ayton, Scarborough for the evening party the following day. ‘We chose these venues because they were local with beautiful countryside surroundings, plus we were able to get married outside in the courtyard in the sunshine and have afternoon tea. There were 26 guests (28 including us) and it took about a year to plan.’

How they met
We’ve been together 3 years, we met on a night out – Emma had noticed Jeremy around a lot before then but he’d never noticed her – could be something to do with the height difference!!

The proposal
The proposal was far from romantic…. it started off well with a weekend in London, Jeremy wasn’t sure where to propose though so ended up having to propose in our hotel room which was the size of a shoe box – so small he had to get on one knee on the bed!!! Funny memory!

Why did you choose your photographer?
Neil was recommended to us and as soon as we saw his website we knew he was the photographer for us – we loved his contemporary style and that his photos were fun and unique

The dress
My dress is made by Sincerity Bridal and was bought off the rack and was only £100 from a local wedding shop, Wedding Belles of Dean Road in Scarborough my headband was from the same place and was more expensive than the dress! Jeremy bought me my vivienne westwood anglomania shoes for my birthday on the year we met. My jewellery was from accessorize and again picked by Jeremy.

The suit and bridesmaids
Jeremy’s 3 piece suit was from Austin Reed as were his tie and pocket square his shoes were from Office. Emma bought Jeremy the pocket watch as a wedding gift to add a bit of extra detail to his suit. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Monsoon with accessories from accessorize and Next and the flower girls wore dresses from Monsoon and accessories from Monsoon and Claire’s

Theme or colour scheme
No colour scheme at all, the more colour the better. The only theme we had was in creating a mad hatter’s tea party for us to enjoy afternoon tea.

Decoration
For the afternoon tea we set up a mad hatters tea party so we had one big long table with all 28 guests around it. The centrepieces to the table were various teapots filled with flowers, teacups filled with pansies and glass bottles with single stem flowers in them. Dried petals in lilac, pale pink and white were scattered down the table along with crystals. Each guest had a teacup, saucer and side plate as their table setting with a cake pop favour. We also had bunting hooked up to the beams to create the english tea party look we were aiming for.

Food
Traditional afternoon tea, sandwiches together with cream scones, chocolate brownies, lemon tarts, carrot cakes etc together with tea and coffee served in mismatched teacups, saucers and side plates

Entertainment
No entertainment for day 1 of our wedding – we had a separate party on the Friday night where we had a DJ (ordered to play 90’s indie music) and Neil and Charlotte to set up a photobooth for our guests!!

Flowers
The bouquets and buttonholes were handmade by Emma and are made up entirely of buttons with a few feathers thrown in for good measure. Emma is hoping to try a few wedding fayres with her designs to try and tempt brides away from traditional flowers to bespoke button bouquets.

Personal / DIY touches
• As above, the bouquets and button holes were made by Emma
• The flowers for the table were arranged by Emma’s mum in the various teacups, teapots and bottles we had collected
• The cake pop favours (white rabbits and black top hats) were created by bridesmaid Gizelle Hand
• We created “eat me” and “drink me” tags. The eat me tags were attached to the cake pop favours with colourful ribbons and the drink me tag was attached to each individual teacup along with a luggage tag name tag.
• We had a wishing tree on our night do instead of a traditional wedding wishes book – we bought a load of luggage tags and personalized them to encourage people to make a wish on the opposite side.
• Jeremy’s sisters partner, David Puckeridge is an artist in Australia and he created our night do invite which was a caricature of us in wedding attire (plus wellys) standing in front of a campervan at a music festival – which pretty much is our idea of heaven!! The caricature is attached.
• Emma’s sister in law’s sister (getting confusing now), Charlotte Middleton, created our wedding day invitations which was a paper cut design – Charlotte is just starting out as a business and her website is:- http://charlottemiddleton.co.uk/bespoke-wedding-stationery
• Emma’s mum decorated the flower girl’s confetti baskets which she purchased plain from Amazon and customised with ribbons and butterflies
• We had some bubble guns for the flower girls to play with as they walked around the courtyard so Emma was able to walk in behind in a trail of bubbles – we thought this was a bit different.

Special moments
We both randomly woke up at 4am in separate houses unable to sleep any longer so we were texting each other and watching the sunrise. The weather was amazing meaning that we could get married outside in the courtyard. The best memory of the day had to be after afternoon tea being sat outside in the sunshine on the lawn, watching the flower girls play tig with our siblings. Funny moment of the day was discovering the best men’s waistcoats!! After choosing what looked like a stylish waistcoat from a catalogue and leaving it up to the best men to try them on and collect them in time for the big day the waistcoats looked like tin foil and dazzled you from a mile away.

Biggest surprise
Emma not crying and despite dreading taking the actual vows we really enjoyed the ceremony. Also seeing how Jeremy’s sisters had decorated the restaurant for afternoon tea – the table was simply stunning!

Advice
Get a book to help you plan, work out your budget and look at ways you can do things cheaper just by being a bit creative. Tips for the day are relax, surround yourself with your friends and family and make sure you sit back and enjoy it. Be yourself – have the wedding you want not the wedding people expect you to have. And don’t bother with chair covers – we still don’t know what the point is to these!!!

Supplier Shout Outs

  • Neil obviously for his amazing photography skills
  • Scarborough Combi Van Hire – for the loan of their amazing orange glittery campervan
  • Creative Cakes by Louize – Scarborough provided the tower of cupcakes which we had instead of a wedding cake on the Friday Night and were amazing – the best cupcakes we’ve tasted outside of the Hummingbird Bakery.  The shop can also be found on Facebook
  • Gavin and Stacy – my amazing hairdressers from G Cutz of Dean Road in Scarborough who created my  hairstyle despite me not giving them any indication of what style we were going for until i turned up on the morning of the wedding.  I think Gavin who I have known a very long time had a more sleepless night than me the night before the wedding.
  • Rewind Disco – for our Friday night party who enabled us to pick exactly what we wanted him to play with an online playlist
  • Homebird House – a beautiful boutique of amazingness where we bought our bunting and a birdcage wedding postbox
  • Charlotte Middleton – for our wedding stationary
