Homespun Rustic Wedding in Colorado

You know how much I love a rustic wedding, well throw in a tone of homespun DIY details and I am in heaven and today’s wedding is just that! Add in an outdoor ceremony, sun filled portrait shots and the cutest couple and you have the makings of a damn fine wedding! Todays amazing couple are Angie and Jeff who were married on 11th August at Rollinsville, Colorado, United State, Big thanks to Jackie Nuxall from Selah Photography for capturing the day for us.

Angie the bride has been kind enough to tell us a bit more about the day…………

We created a homespun, rustic wedding drawing on our passions in life – all against the backdrop of the continental divide on a beautiful August day in the rocky mountains. Our primary wedding theme was “Aspen” We made cake/dessert stands, wooden centerpieces, aspen coasters for favors, and a beautiful ceremony arch all using reclaimed wood from our forest. We collected pine cones for the table decorations and added wildflowers to our arrangements and my bouquet to give small touches of the Colorado wilderness we have come to love so much.

The most meaningful aspects of our wedding were original ideas that resonated with who we are. We incorporated our love of poetry into all aspects of our wedding. Our biggest diy “hit” was probably the save-the-date cd, which we designed and made together using our favorite songs. The playlist was also used throughout the ceremony and reception and our guests commented on how excited they were to connect with some of our favorite music. We designed all of our invitations, programs, favor tags and my mom even made the cake, which Jeff and I tiered the morning of our wedding! Although we were overwhelmed at first by trying to create a handmade wedding, we (wisely) decided to lean on the skills of those around us.

The ceremony was particularly meaningful. My grandparents married us and my dad gave the homily—while Jeff’s family and our friends participated in the readings, led the singing and prayers. My cousin interpreted Wendell Berry’s poem “The Country of Marriage” into American Sign Language during the ceremony, which was absolutely beautiful. We chose to plant an aspen grove with seedlings for our unity ritual after we said our vows. Each seedling represented our friends and family who have passed on from this life. Since aspens are the largest living organism — all connected at the roots — it was a symbolic intertwining of our communities and our love.
