Roxanne and Seb’s Rustic Tipi Wedding in Hertfordshire By Andy Squires

It’s Friday again, I have no idea how it came round so fast, if the last few weeks are anything to go by this year is going to fly by even faster than last year!  To finish of the week I have this gorgeous Tipi wedding for you courtesy of Andy Squires. It’ a wonderful wedding full of country charm and rustic chic!

‘A beautiful gathering of our friends and family in a rustic setting, culminating in a proper party!’

The lovely couple are Roxanne and Seb who were married on 25th August at Weston Church, Hertfordshire with the reception at Seb’s parents’ house, Weston, Hertfordshire. ‘We looked at venues in London but none could accommodate the numbers we wanted. We then looked at some country house type places but we wanted more control over the theme and content of our wedding – so we decided to do most of it ourselves! We had 130 guest in the day and 170 in the evening. We pretty much started planning it as soon as we got engaged, which was October 2010, though the bulk of the organising happened in the 9 months leading up the wedding’

How they met
We met through mutual friends after Roxanne came to one of Seb’s gigs, and have been together for four years.

The proposal
We went for a lovely meal at Arbutus in Soho for Roxanne’s birthday, and then I surprised her when we got back to our flat. I wanted to propose somewhere that meant something to us instead of somewhere clichéd or grand that didn’t, and yes I got down on one knee!

Why did you choose your photographer?
We looked at a lot of wedding websites and blogs and Andy’s name came up a few times. We checked out his website and really liked his photos – they stood out and were what we were looking for. We met up and had a great discussion about everything, and we knew Andy was the guy for the job.

Theme or colour scheme
We generally had a Rustic theme with a touch of vintage with pinks and greens in particular.

Food
We had canapés, hog roast, & cold meats & cheeses in the evening, all done by Kingfisher Catering (Hemel Hempstead)

Entertainment
The Bikini Beach Band played a fantastic set, and got everyone dancing. We then had a carefully selected playlist picked by us that played out until the generator got turned off.

Flowers and Decoration
Roxanne’s bouquet had David Austin Roses, Fresias, Veronicas. We also had hydrandias, roses, alstromerias, & generally a lot of foliage, home made bunting, lanterns and candles.

Personal touches/ DIY Details
We did a lot ourselves. The wedding favours & place names, bunting, table plan, table signs, wooden signs for the wedding & camping areas, the music playlist!

Special moments
The moment we were actually married and everyone cheered, the band were amazing, the speeches were all really good, when it got dark and people stood around the open fire, just all our friends and family being in one place, looking around and seeing everyone having such a great time.

Biggest surprise
We planned the day so meticulously that we knew exactly what was happening and when, but you could probably say it was a bit of a surprise just how well the day went and how much we were able to let go and enjoy ourselves.

Advice
Organisation is key, and certainly leaving enough time for each bit! Things always run over. Picking the right people for the most important jobs too – the best man and maid of honour. They need to be 100% reliable as you will be leaning on them more than you expect!

Supplier Shout Outs

  • Tipis – http://Tipis4hire.com These guys were so helpful from start to finish. 100% organised and just wanted us to have the best day, and did whatever they could to make that happen, including getting an extra few benches to us just in time for the wedding. Special shout out to Lucy for managing the project so well.
  • Catering – http://kingfishercaterers.co.uk EVERYONE commented on how good the food was. It was spectacular, from the canapés, to the hog roast, even the salads. They really took charge on the day and did a great job of running the bar in the evening. When our generator broke down on the day while we were being married in the church, they organised for another one to be delivered, and had it all sorted by the time all the guests arrived at the reception. Special shout out to Dan, who took our wishes to heart and all the times we changed our minds on what we wanted!

Congratulations Roxanne and Seb. Looks like you had a fabulous day. Roxanne’s dress is absolutely beautiful. The wedding flowers are gorgeous too – Love the addition of the veronicas and the foliage in the bride’s bouquet to really give it some texture. Thanks for sharing :)
