If you are currently in a wedding planning slump, or still yet to tick some...
If your getting married this year you may just be starting to think about wedding gifts, should you have them? shouldn’t you? should you ask for money? should you register with a big store? Or ask for cash towards a honeymoon? There are so many options these days!
As a Planner I will tell you this, people will buy you gifts whether you ask them to or not, so you may as well think about it properly so you actually get something you want! It seems that the option of money towards a Honeymoon is proving to be incredibly popular these days, so today I have enlisted Andrew from Buy Our Honeymoon to tell you all about the Honeymoon option and more about his own company and how he set it up after getting married.
It could be that you’re living together, and your home is fully-stocked with all the saucepans, glasses and towels you need. Or perhaps you’ve both been living independently, and the challenge of combining your households is deciding whose kettle you’ll actually use. Either way, you don’t need more stuff — but you know that your friends and family will nonetheless want to buy you gifts to celebrate your wedding.
But simply asking for cash might feel impersonal — or worse, rude. You’re genuinely appreciative of any gift you’re given, and you’d like your guests to feel they’re giving you something real and romantic, not just writing a number on a cheque.
What you’d really love, is to be able to start your married life together with the holiday of a lifetime. Wouldn’t it be great if your friends and family could contribute towards your honeymoon, but in a way that felt more like a traditional gift registry than just an anonymous pot of cash?
If this describes you, you’re not alone. It described us back when we got married ourselves, and so we created Buy Our Honeymoon for our own wedding. We put together a gift list of the things we wanted to do, see and visit on our epic 3000-mile road trip of Florida and the Deep South. Our bridesmaids helped us stay in a log cabin, up in the smoky mountains of Tennessee; work colleagues upgraded our rental car to a convertible; aunts and uncles bought us tickets to all the theme parks.
The idea went down so well with our guests that we were persuaded to develop the site for other people to use. It’s now nearly six years after we launched, and we’re the UK’s top gift list for your dream honeymoon, on the shortlist for the Best Wedding Gift List in the Wedding Ideas Awards later this week.
First, sign up for a free, no-obligation 7-day trial. You can select from a variety of web addresses for your guests to visit, such as our-dream-honeymoon.co.uk or the-gift-of-memories.com. Choose one of our beautiful design themes, and personalise your pages with your own photos and a description of your honeymoon plans.
Then, start compiling your list of excursions, adventures, meals, accommodation and travel expenses. You don’t need to have your honeymoon itinerary fully planned-out, or even know where you’re headed. You certainly don’t need to have already booked anything.
You can go into as much or as little detail as you want — we’ve got loads of sample gift lists to give you ideas, and we’re more than happy to help with any queries you might have. You can include absolutely anything you can think of, and even mix gifts for your honeymoon with gifts for your home.
We’re totally independent, so you can book your honeymoon travel with whomever you want to get the best deals you can find. And we don’t take any commission out of the gifts you receive. The value of your gifts is always paid directly to you, in whatever way suits you best.
There are three main options. If you and the majority of your guests are based in the UK, the best way is to take advantage of our brand new Direct Debit payments option. We’re the first wedding gift list service in the world to enable guests to pay for their gifts immediately online, with a one-off Direct Debit.
You can also link your gift list to a PayPal account, so guests are able to easily and conveniently pay online using a credit or debit card. Some couples choose instead to receive cash or cheques on the day of their wedding, and others leave details on making a balance transfer to their bank account.
Buy Our Honeymoon helps coordinate and manage your gift money, but we don’t collect your gifts on your behalf. This means your gifts are completely safe, and yours from the moment they’re given.
And if you get stuck, we’re here to help. We’ll provide you with 70 customised notification cards your guests can use to go straight to your list, which include a telephone number that guests can use to call us with any queries they might have. If you have guests who don’t have access to the internet, we’ll be happy to send them a printed copy of the list and to place a reservation on their behalf.
