So she is back today to show you all how to make her super cute Order of Service Fans which were featured in her own wedding here. Jenny and Josh’s Relaxed, Handmade and Crafty Cambridge Wedding. Here’s Jen to tell you how to make these gorgeous Fans………….
I made these Order of Service Fans for every guest at my wedding and they went down a treat! I used one side to tell everybody about the schedule for the day ahead, and the other side to list the readings and who the main bridal party were. It made another potentially boring necessity of the day so pretty and individual to us, and because our wedding was outside in summer the fan part was so useful!
They were also actually really easy to do. Kind of time-consuming, but I did most of it in front of the telly! Or get your bridesmaids round and combine it with gossip and wine – so much fun!
* I got my paper from Paperchase but loads of places do lovely paper that you can use – it just needs to be able to be printed on.
Step 1) First, decide what you want your order of service to say. It can have anything you want, really! Helpful things for guests to know are names of the wedding party (parents of bride and groom, best man, bridesmaids, ushers, etc.), any details about the service (religious or civil, it doesn’t matter!), such as readings, music, hymms, etc., and also maybe any important timings of the day, such as when food is, when photos are, when evening guests arrive, when the first dance is, etc.
Open up a blank Word document and just start playing around with any text or images. You might be surprised what you can fit on an A6 page and what you can do with Word! I used interesting fonts and some silhouette images from Google to create something pretty.
Step 2) Once you’re happy with what you’ve created for each side of the order of service, start printing them out. This is where it’s important that the paper you chose is printer-friendly. Mine was, but only just! A few went in the bin. Oh well!
I purposefully chose paper already cut to the right size (A6) so I didn’t have to cut them all to that size myself. And the paper had a lovely frayed effect. Print the right number of both sides for the number of guests you’ll have.
Step 3) Next is that time-consuming part! Using double-sided sticky tape, tape the two sides of the order of service together, back to back, with a lollipop stick in-between. Good, thick tape is handy here as it means everything stays in place well.
Step 4) To complete each one, cut a 30cm length of ribbon and tie it in a pretty bow around the lollipop stick handle. If necessary, use tape or glue to secure in place.
And here they are in use at our wedding by some of our guests… love love love!
