2012
It’s the end of another week, this one has gone by super fast, faster than normal! Is it just me, or have you fond that as well? I have a weekend of full on blogging to do before I go off on my holidays on Monday, I can’t leave you without any wedding pretty while I’m away can I!! Today’s Nottinghamshire Wedding is a full of English Charm and amazingly some sunshine and takes place in the brides parents back garden.
The lovely couple are Nicola and Tom who were married on 30th June. ‘Our ceremony was at All Saints Church in South Leverton, Nottinghamshire and the reception was at Nicola’s parent’s house roughly 5 miles from the church. It is the local church where Nicola grew up and we thought it would be nice to get married in her parents parish close to where Nicola grew up. We had 140 guests’
How they met
We actually met at boarding school many moons ago where we went out for 2 years then went our separate ways when Tom went to university, we call this Chapter one. We eventually met up with each other …..years ago out of the blue and the rest, as they say is history, we are now on chapter two!!
Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 = 7 Years .
The proposal
Tom whisked us away to Manchester over the bank holiday in April 2011. I had no idea where we were heading and thought I was going to The Zoo for the day. On arriving in Manchester we went out for Sushi followed by a couple of bars. Throughout the evening Tom was unusually reserved and determined to just drink (more than normal). Finally after using my powers of persuasion I managed to get him to call it a night but not before he treated himself to a bottle of Gin from Tesco’s. In the hotel room & 15 + gins later he got down on one knee (nearly fell) and proposed with a Claire’s Accessories ring. For the record Tom did promise that we would go out shopping the next day to get whatever engagement ring I wanted.
How did you choose your photographer?
We discovered Beccy as my boss commissioned her for his wedding last year and after looking through his photos both Nicola and I were so impressed by the natural look of the photos we got on the phone straight away to book her for our big day. Beccy is the perfect photographer in my eyes, she has an absolute ability to capture the moment perfectly without being too intrusive, you hardly knew she is there which is exactly what we wanted. From the first time we met Beccy, we knew straight away we were going to get on incredibly well and we were not disappointed.
The dress by
The wedding dress was designed by Amanda Wyatt and coincidentally named ‘Nicola’
The shoes are from Kurt Geiger
The suit
Bridesmaid Dresses were from the ‘The White Room’ which is gorgeous bridal shop in Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
All the morning suits were hired from a local hire shop close to Stamford, the tie’s were purchased form Paul Smith in Nottingham. As a thank you to the two best men and two ushers Tom had 4 sets of silver cufflinks made up complete with corresponding initials for them to wear on the day.
Theme
We decided not to theme our wedding as we have always been a slightly uncoordinated couple. We did however attempt a ‘firecracker’ colour scheme which we later discovered was probably the most difficult colour we could have possible chosen!
Food
We feasted on Auntie Sue’s fabulous canapés followed by Roast Beef and a cocktail of summer fruit desserts!
Entertainment
When we arrived back to the house after the Church ceremony we had a string trio playing in the background while drinking Pimms on the lawn, it was all very English!! For the evenings entertainment after the speeches, we had a live band and a fantastic singer, Kyle Keal. They played all evening until the early hours and were absolutely brilliant! Great fun, great music and got everyone on the dance floor!
Flowers
I have no idea what kind of flowers we had but they looked lovely ! They were designed by ‘Flowers by Kay’ from Retford
Decoration
We had a Pick ‘n’ Mix of decorations from Sweet Trees, White Mice, Coloured Parasols, Scrabble Table Letters, Retro Sweet Jars to pictures of Tom from his Boots Baby Catalogue Shoot.
Personal touches
We decided the usual 1st dance routine didn’t quite do it for us so decided to hit the dance floor – microphones in hand dressed as Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton and we smashed out ‘Islands in the Stream ! I think it worked rather well!!!
Advice
I would advise starting to arrange the wedding as much in advance as you can. This was our plan originally but neither of are very organised people and work better under pressure, but it did get a little stressful towards the end. Another key piece of advice is to enjoy the day as much as you possibly can! Several of my friends mentioned to us the day itself goes so quickly you cannot believe it so try to savour every moment. They could not have been more right, our day went so fast it was ridiculous and it is impossible to get round to say hello to everyone.
