Bridal Style: Wedding Hair – Key Wedding Trends For 2012 (Part 1)

Today on Bridal Style I am talking hair, wedding hair and what I think is going to be BIG this year. Gone are the days when wedding hair is all about structure, intricate detailing and how much hair spray you can get on your head in one go. These days styles have gone loose, de constructed and a lot more relaxed, as weddings themselves become a lot less structured!

I have been doing  a bit of research myself for a shoot I am involved in next weekend, and have come across some beautiful styles………I have been getting major hair envy! so I thought I would share with you what my 4 favorite looks fare.

This week I am looking at the braid as well as Grecian styling, and next week I will be looking at the messy up do and the shaggy ‘Boho’ style.

The Braid

The braid comes in many different versions, The French braid, the Dutch braid, the side braid, the waterfall braid, as well as the fishtail……….the list is endless, but it’s a great way of pulling hair back off your face in a soft unstructured way. You can do this with all of your hair creating an alternative up do,  or just parts of it, it can be central, or to the side. Below are a few of my favorites that I have found, to be honest I could have gone on for hours with theses as there  are so many variations!

The Grecian

I LOVE this and this is sort of what I had for my wedding day….although it didn’t turn out quite like these unfortunately! To me the traditional Grecian style is lots of hair loosely piled up on top if the head, this is very relaxed and works really well when a gorgeous hair accessory is added in to finish of the look. Again a great option for a unstructureed up do.

I would quite like a combination of a braided, messy, boho down-do please, though if my hair doesn’t grow then it’ll have to be an up-do.

Now, find me a picture of THAT and i’ll love you forever. I just need to merge all of these pictures, and probably those from your next article, and we’ll be onto a winner!

Hi, I love this – have been concerned about what to go for with my hair, I do need some advice though – I have never worn hair extentions before and have chin length hair but would like some length on the big day, does anyone know if I was to use extensions if the pic above Blake Lively at the bottom would be achievable and do you have any recommendations?

Hi Laura, I will be posting some messy Boho down styles next week and I think some of them will have plaits in them, you can go onto my pinterest page and find hair ideas, there may be some there.

Sarah, yes you can easily use hair extensions to create an up do like Blake lively, you can buy clip in hair extensions that you can put in easily and then take them out the same day. I would ask your hair dresser for their advice but you can pick them up in various wholesalers or markets etc. if you put them underneath your own hair you won’t see the clip which is tiny anyway. xxx

When I got married in 1992 I had a French Braid but it was anything but soft and easy to wear! I’m sure my hairdresser gave me a temporary face lift by scraping my hair back really really tight, and then of course there was the obligatory can of hairspray to make sure a single hair didn’t come astray during the day – as for taking the hair down at the end of the day don’t even go there! Look forward to follow up posts x

I like these hair trends. There suitable for the wedding and the car/plane ride to the honeymoon. If it starts to come undone during the recpetion, it’ll still look natural.
