Jodie and David’s Wedding at the Crab and Lobster with a Jenny Packham Dress By Anna Hardy Photography
Happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you are...
Today we are talking Vintage and Retro inspired headwear with the lovely Amy from Vintage Styler. There are so many different sorts of hair accessories to choose from these days and with more and more brides tacking their influence from a certain decade or era, it can make it even harder to choose and to get the look right.
Amy is an expert in wedding accessories, her website is dedicated to a whole host fo beautiful creations. Amy says about her site ‘
Vintage Styler is inspired by a love of weddings, and a passion for unique, individual bridal style. We believe that each and every bride is different. We encourage her to be herself and channel her own individual style through her big day.
‘The website is a treasure trove of vintage and vintage inspired wedding accessories. Founded in 2010, by bridal makeup artist and hair stylist Amy Lewis who has a passion for gorgeous vintage accessories, jewellery, and most of all weddings, Vintage Styler is a truly gorgeous boutique full of inspiration for your big day.’
I have asked Amy to talk through each decade and to choose a piece that sums up that era and look for us. So if you are currently looking at ideas for your wedding outfit and trying to choose your hair accessories hopefully this may come as some help for you
1920’s art deco
We love the decadence of the 1920’s for wedding style inspiration. Over the last year we’ve seen the likes of Kate Moss, Lily Allen and Kate Middleton taking inspiration from the roaring 20’s. Peacock feathers were big in the 20’s, try this feather brooch headband by Jo Barnes worn either across your head or as a forehead band to work the 20’s look to perfection!
1930’s hollywood glamour
A sparkling hair piece with a hint of art deco is perfect if your bridal style is 1930’s inspired. Teamed with a slinky bias cut dress and smooth sleek curls, the Olivia Wedding Hair Piece by Debbie Carlisle is a beautiful focal point. Made to order via Vintage Styler
The ‘swing’ era was all about lady-like elegance and glamour, our bestselling Crystals and Pearls bridal comb is a gorgeous addition to your look if you’re a 1940’s bride. A slim fitting dress, classic hair-up and red lips and nails complete the look!
1950’s fun and flirty
A feather hair piece like this gorgeous one of a kind Ava headband by Debbie Carlisle featuring an original vintage dress clip is perfect for channeling a 50’s bridal look, and ideal to finish off a full, flirty tea length dress.
Remember if you’re a 40’s or 50’s bride, a birdcage veil is a must from Rocks for Frocks
We’re often hearing from brides who are inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s glam look in the 60’s for their big day. A perfectly simple but effective bridal hair piece to channel Audrey’s style is our Pearl Bridal Headband by Rocks for Frocks. Wear with a high top knot hair style, a flick of black eyeliner and nude lips to carry this look off to perfection.
For a relaxed bridal look, take your inspiration from the 70’s, we love this look for a summer, country wedding or a chilled out beach wedding abroad. Wear your hair loose and wavy with a forehead band like the beautiful Lana forehead band by Debbie Carlisle arriving next month, one of our firm favourites at VS available to reserve online now!
Thanks so much to Amy for talking us through these beautiful hair accessories, I hope these have given you all a few ideas for your own bridal outfits.
